When I ask the bartender for drinks "with ice", they give me weird looks. What's the big deal? I don't like using slang. Women bartenders are particularly nasty with the 'attitude'.

on the rocks is not even considered slang anymore, because it has been used for so long. that is why they look at you funny. there is a such thing as being too proper you know!im sure if you really think about it, you dont use proper words for everyday things sometimes

Maybe you're just going to the wrong bars. Drinks with ice, rocks, whatever you want to call it should not be a big deal to ANY bartender.

Not sure because when you ask... for lets say a soda with no ice thats ok...so what if you said soda no rocks....they would give you a weirder look.
