I've just recently got a industrial piercing (about 4 days now) and I still have some hot sensations, I hope it isn't infected, I was just wondering if it was normal to go through this for the first week, and I also was wondering if someone could give me some tips on cleaning it and such, I do have salt that apparently speeds up the process of healing...

Industrial piercings take quite some time to heal. Basically you have two or more piercings connected, so if something goes wrong with one any inflammation is going to pull on the bar and effect the others.

Salt water is the best thing for cleaning ANY piercing. It is safe, gentle and effective. Basically, you have salt water on the inside of your body, and by putting it on the outside, by a process of osmosis you draw the gunk out. A sac on the putside is not necessarily a sign of infection. It could just be a polyp, which is perfectly normal with piercings. It is what happens when the build-up of deadskin cells and what-not decides no to use the pathway of the piercing as an exit from the body, and makes it own way out. It gets to the skin, which is tough and forms a kind of blister. By strengthening your salt to water ration, you will dry it out and it will go away.

One standard teaspoon of salt to one cup of boiled water is the best way to make up your normal dosage of saline (salt water), and the strengthened dosage should be about two teaspoons to one cup.

Once the saline has cooled, get some tissues or cotton wool balls, wet it with the saline, until almost dripping and place it over your piercing for a minimum of ten minutes (though for the first little while you may want to go a little longer). Then get a cotton tip, dip it in the salt water, clean one entry point, turn the cotton tip over (DO NOT DOUBLE DIP) and clean another. Get a second cotton tip and repeat the process with the other entries. The colder the saline, the better it will feel.

Try and not sleep on the side with the piercing. I hope this helps. :)

Industrial piercings, assuming it's through your ear, will take a bit to heal. Cartilage takes quite a bit to heal. The best advice I could give would be to keep it clean with sea salt (not table salt) or piercing store disinfectant. Don’t take it out to clean it tho. The hot sensations are perfectly normal. You just had a metal rod jabbed through your ear and it’s just panicking.

A tip: If after a while it’s still having trouble clearing up take the bar out (or get a piercer to do it for you) and put in captive rings in until it’s healed. The bar puts stress on the piercing and it’ll heal better with rings in.

Just keep it clean and keep an eye on it. If you have any pressing concerns I‘d just go to a piercing parlour and just ask some questions. They’re always happy to answer your questions and have a quick inspection.

Also keep an eye on your hair products. I got the top of my ear pierced and it got MEGA infected because hair gel was getting into it. Not cool at all. So after you funk up your hair, clean the piercing. Then it’ll stay happy.

Cartilage piercings take a long time to heal. Don’t expect it to be healed in six week. It’s not a flesh piercing; you went through crunchy stuff so you’ve gotta give it time. At least six months before you can whack it and it doesn’t hurt like hell. Just be patient with it and keep it clean and all will be hunky dory!

keep some motrin in your system (200mgs) for about 3-4 days. these helps keep the swelling down and helps you heal faster. next, keep it VERY CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a simple antibiotic rinse for cuts from your local drugstoe poured on the piercing twice a day is fine. then follow with neosporin (generic is fine and cheaper). use the neosporin no more then 2-3 days. apply gently with a q-tip, this is better than a cotton ball because the cotton ball can leave loose fibers around the piercing making it prone to infection. continue with the salt as described by your piercer. when i did this i was fine within 2 weeks, although was careful for the full 6 month healing time.

yes that is normal! dont worry.. its still new. its only 4 days old and will be healing fo rup to a year.. it will be for almost a half year (thats how long my co-workers hurt for, was sore i mean) i have 2 cartilage piercings and got them done 3 months ago and they are still sore form time ti time. but hte sea salt soaks are the best thing to do! they help fight infections and pull out the lymph (disharge) and speed up healing and help wiht the pain just make sure you use non iodized sea salt and warm distilled water for 15 minutes at a time 1 to 2 times a day.. you dont wnt to get an infection as this can lead to cartilage collapse!

and infection would be excessive swelling, pain, and green or yellow discharge. if you see that go to the pierce sjop or doctors right away to get on some anti biotics.. but you shoudl also use some aftercare pierce solution too! im sure you can find them online =)

An industrial is one of the most painful piercings to get on your ears. It'll stay inflamed for about two weeks (or longer if you don't take care of it) and will have random outburts of redness even after the inital healing period. The easiest way to keep your ear from getting overly infectious is to make sure to keep doing your sea salt soaks, keeping hair products out of the piercings, and changing your pillowcases often. I got my orbital done (similar piercing) and if I slept on it funny it would throb for days. After the first 6 months I got better at sleeping off of my ear and it never got infected again.

Mine was quite uncomfortable the first week. I believe its normal. It was a few years ago, but I think youre ok. If you get a sac on either hole see a doc, you just need some antibiotics to clear up infection

Mine 4 days after I got it. (Left and a few days ago on the right) I've had it for a few months. Yes, it's normal. I had puss in my ear. I use hibiclens and sea salt soaks.

To help with not sleeping on it you can get one of those pillows that you take traveling they are shaped like a horse shoe so you can put your ear in the middle of it so it won't touch the bed.
