What planetary alignment? The alignemnt of May 5, 2000?
Already past and no disasters, in fact it was not a very good alinment. The planets were in an area of about 25 degrees, there have been better ones. Also, they were all on the other side of the sun. Not much chance of them affecting us from there.
The next good alignment is not until 2040, a bit past your 2012 year. it will be a bit tighter than then 2000 alignment, but no where near as tight as the alignment of 1962.
Sunspot happen all the time, why should this one be any different, because of an 12year old alignment?
Sorry, but your questions smacks more of astrology than any serious science. You should put this question in the Astronomy sections, those guys can use a good laugh. . .
Now, you didn't mention the Mayan Calender, but you should there, it will make it all that much funnier, and if I am in the mood, I may even put up some mathematics to show you how even a perfect alignment will not effect the earth in any way.

Not only the planetary alignment, but this also coincides with the exact year that the ancient Mayans ran their calendar till. Pretty eerie isn't it; they create a calendar system that not only stands the test of time, goes for thousands of years, but also ends in 2012.
Interesting isn't.....guess we'll wait and see :)
Take care.

Hopefully by then people will have woken up to the fact that we must change our lives and we will be living in a more sustainable way in order to contain the changes that are happening to our planet.

You should only be afraid of this year if you are afraid of numbers divisible 503. Also, 2012 is not a date.

I seriously doubt that should be a bad date. The only thing I can think of is that it will throw off our gps or compasses.
