Long, but not treated seriously enough, and not quite long enough for the US to finish what we started.

In the end, we left and 50,000 US troops died for Congress to chicken out, and for us to leave our allies to be massacred.

The United States was actively involved in Vietnam from 1964 to 1975. Before WWII, Vietnam was a French colony until it was overran by the japanese in 1939. After WWII, the French moved in to re-establish control of the region, but things steadily deteriorated to the point of war in the early 50's

I suppose you mean the Viet Nam War. Our involvement there began after WWII when we supported the French in their efforts to recolonize it. The Japanese had conquered it, and the French rearmed the Japanese soldiers still there after WWII.

The first American casualty was an OSS officer in 1946, but it was Kennedy who really got the war going in the early 1960s. We pulled out by 1973, and the Commies took over by 1975.
