There has not been one single time in the last couple of years that I have been out to eat (diner - upscale NY restaurant) that there has not been at least one diner at a nearby table blowing their nose, sometimes very loudly. Please let's spread the word - GROSS and unsanitary!!!! We do not want to hear, or see, your bodily fluids. OK, I fel better now.

I suppose anyone who does blow their nose in public doesn't abide by etiquette and probably wouldn't be visiting this forum. I wish they would though!

Nose-blowing in front of others should be limited to small puffs. If what is required is big, noisy nose-blowing, this should be conducted in private. It is distasteful to others to hear or see someone beleaguered by mucus deal with it in front of them. " -The Emily Post Institute

"And if you’re going out for a meal with your new colleague or client – or anyone, for that matter – never, ever blow your nose in your napkin. " -Manners Matter, Carol Lippert Gray, August 25, 2005

"Do not clean your teeth with your toothpick, re-apply lip gloss or blow your nose at the table. " -The Etiquette Ladies

So there you have it.

So i'm sitting opposite you ingesting a vindaloo curry or a laksa, ought to you want I enable the snot run freely onto the table? Blowing your nostril on the table ought to not be proper yet neither is salad with a facet of diners flem. that are you able to wish.

Absolutely in poor taste. Are you arguing with someone on this point? On the other hand, if a sneeze comes out of nowhere, you may need to wipe your nose and blow out any residual drippage quickly and nonchalantly. I wouldn't just whip out a tissue at the table to blow my nose at any time, I'd excuse myself to the restroom if it wasn't an emergency.

Absolutely unacceptable! One should excuse himself and head to the washroom instead. Not only does it cause noise pollution, it's also a health hazard because of all the germs that would be spread around!

Yes it is VERY bad manners. Ask to be excused and go to the washroom to do that. What if the everybody were eating egg drop soup?

Some spicy food makes my nose run. I don't blow my nose but wipe it. I keep my kerchief ready.
They should not blow their noses. Sometimes while doing it, you tend to fart. That is really embarrassing.

Of course. You could benefit yourself and everyone else by excusing yourself and going to the bathroom to blow your honker there.
