I have a job that requires me to be on my feet for several hours. At the end of my work day my feet hurt. Other than finding a new job, what can I do to prevent my foot pain?

Thick soled shoes. I wear a low top work shoe or hiking shoe. The thick rubber sole really does make a difference. Also, shoes these days are stylish looking when they form to the arch of the foot, but it will be better for you to get a shoe that does not do this. Brooks is the best brand to find such a shoe. Look for "platform support for slight to bad pronation" Pronation is when the foot tends to rest inward, bending at the ankle. So:
Thick Soles
No curved arches on the platform of the shoe
You will feel sore for about two weeks, but your body will get used to the work, and the new shoes.
Also, learning a few stretches to do at the end of the day can help as well.

I used to get pain after working all day, standing on my feet. But I switched shoes, I started wearing New Balance. It made such a big difference in my feet. They are a lot more supportive than most. But you gotta get the shoes that say "abzorb" somewhere on the side of the shoe, in the front and side. Thats what helps stabilize your feet.

Find a pair of shoes which fit you well, are comfortable and not to small Sometimes it takes some work to find shoes which fit you well and are comfortable. . Wear a pair or white cotton socks to work. Soak your feet in hot soapy water when you get home.
I am a RN and work 12 hour shifts. My favorite shoes are Nike Shox. They are so comfortable. I always wear white cotton socks and when I shower after I get off, I soak my feet in hot water and dry them well.
