DVDs are cheap enough that you have no need for dvd-rw. Just buy some good dvd-rs. Verbatim work best for me as they have played in every single dvd player I have come across, and I lend out movies quite a bit. Spend the extra 10 dollars if you have to and do NOT buy cheap discs.

Juliana, you already have in your question the type of disks you should use "DVD -rw dw" So what is so confusing about it? Go to best buy and get the discs you need for your burner. They have them all. And don't be afraid to experiment with other discs; they ate not too expensive and you will learn a lot.

You can do it with either a rw is just re-writable, and a r is not, as for using the dvd+r you need a dvd burner that is compatable with those types of cds you you only need to buy ones that are compatible with -r, most cd spindles list what they are compatable with on the outside, and office depot will return/exchange them if you have all of them and all of the packaging incase you do get some that do not work!

If your DVD drive has -rw, then you can only burn -r DVDs, The drive has to be + and - , to burn either format of DVD. FYI, the dual layer DVDs are for Dual Layers drives and cost nearly 5 times as much as a regular blank DVD. Now if you burn a + DVD and it plays then your drive is both - and + rw, not just - rw

RW is rewriteable, so you can use it over and over again. I personally use DVD+R's because I have had luck, but it probably doesn't matter. Some dvd players don't like either or so experiment to find the best for you.

You can use both dvd + r/rw, or dvd -r/rw. In my humble opinion however you should you -r/rw since 80% of the dvd players will play your -r/rw dvd.
