I was wondering ,how the electricity ,which is generated on a large scale is stored. are there any batteries.. or what is it?? .. 'coz once the electricity generated using dams or wndmills .. if the electricity is not consumed at that moment..what is done to it?? and how much of this saved electricity is lost??

If it is not stored, then why is it mentioned that less rainfall in rainy season is the reason for the power cuts in summer?

It is not stored in anyway. Energy produced is consumed right away.

I don't know how much Physics you have studied so I will try to put it in the simplest possible way. It is just not possible to save electricity. Electricity is not stored. And as far as I know, we will never be able to do it. These batteries that you know, they are actually chemical based. Chemicals are in them and a reaction is induced which prompts flow of charge (which is basically electricity).

So, first of all, a very careful estimation determines how much is needed and that is what is produced. If there is too much electricity, it is either sold somewhere else or used to pump the water back up the dam because it is a lot easier for us to keep the generators running as opposed stopping them and restarting them. It just takes too long so we find ways to keep them on as long as possible. This for example, is done at night. So during the day, water comes down. Electricity is produced and used up. At night, that same water is pumped back up to be used again and they don't have to shut down and restart anything.

If the electricity is hydroelectric then it is already stored behind the dam in the form of water. So less rain less water.

Its not stored. The electric co brings and takes. generators on and off line to try and match demand. If there is more electricity than needed, they try to sell it across the state line
