I think it all depends on your cats personality. Our cat Lindsay was the coolest cat I ever had but he was the most stubborn and thought he ruled the roost.
He would love to try to get on the dinner table when no one was around and we would try to surprise him with the water, but it never stuck and he didn't know why he was getting wet because he never learned that it was a result of him being bad or he didn't care and kept doing what ever he pleased.
I also trained our cats using the snapping of fingers or a loud short yell and that usually got them to stop the behavior.
Good Luck

Yeah that works. Really depends on the cat. I find that you need to do whatever (spraying water, snapping your fingers, saying 'NO' firmly, etc.) RIGHT when the act is happening otherwise they won't understand what you're spraying them for. Some cats like to play with the spray - if this is the case with your cat, try another method - they usu. don't like loud noises either (not too loud though - don't want to make them deaf). Also, I found this AWESOME stuff, it's basically BIG double-sided tape (you can get it in the cat aisle of many pet consumer goods shops) that you put on your furniture so that they stop scratching - it has worked wonders! Good Luck.

ONLY if there really is water in the bottle and not acid, detergent or some other harmful chemical. Just even the slightest drop of water could be enough to change a cats mind from doing something. Used only for a method of changing a cats mind to do something and not out of teasing this is effective.

IF it is JUST water, then it is okay. I don't do it because I can just point my finger and they stop their nonsense. But I know that some cats aren't as well-behaved and since they don't like the water or the noise the bottle makes, it's an effective way to get them to stop whatever it is they are doing!

It is harmless and effective. The problem is that your cat may start to associate the spray bottle with you; this may cause it to misbehave when you aren't looking or, worse, it may cause the cat to fear you.
Ideally, you would spray the cat surreptitiously (so that cat doesn't realize who sprayed it) when it misbehaves, but that can be difficult.

Yup....worked wonders when we were training our new male cat to leave our one female cat alone. Also worked when keeping them off the Christmas tree. The key is to catch them in the act. Now, all I have to do is point the bottle in their general direction and they run like mad. :)

Cats hate water (most of them any way there are a few exceptions), its safe and human and they eventually take the hint. But most cats are very stubborn.

it might work. I tried it with my cat and she got use to it. She would just lick the water off then continue on with what she was doing.

Yes. I have a few around the house. Use them when they are being naughty since the word "NO" does not work LOL
