Tonight I've been cabbing several women, with their dogs, plus some husbands/boyfriends with permenant "GIVE ME A BREAK" look on their faces, to a doggy birthday party. Is this the new trend for adults who have decided not to have children?

I don't know if it's a trend but it sounds funny. I give my dog a new toy on his birthday that't about it but nothing against people who host parties. As for the part about not having children you could be right.

I did a whole report once on the growing number of women who don't want children and I did read a section on people who don't want children having a stronger bond with and spoiling their animals more.

That sounds great ... if it were a birthday party for a cat! No offense, just hate dogs....

But I think a lot of people do it ... my parents did it 30 years ago for their dogs and even invited the neighbors over.

I have a birthday cake (can food) with candles (straws - his favorite toy) every year for my special kitty!

Since this is in Religion & Spirituality let me attempt a (tongue in cheek) religious answer:

About celebrating the lives of dogs:
Ecclesiastes 9:4 For he who is reckoned among the living has something to look forward to -- even a live dog is better than a dead lion.

To the husbands:
Ecclesiastes 3:18 I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts.

Ecclesiastes 9:9 Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.

NO! if you want to, then you can. But it is not abusive. Maybe it is a new trend for adults. Most people I know who dont have kids have little dogs who wear little shirts. They even brush the dog's teeth! So, i think it is a trend for people who do not want to have kids.

Shouldn't the dogs get 7 birthday parties per year?

What kind of guy would actually put up with something like that? *lol* I remember when I worked at Michael's and women would drag their men all through the scrapbooking department, demanding their opinion on various items/colors/whatever...The looks on the guys' faces were priceless...

And what kind of chick *demands* that their partner participate in a hobby only one of them is interested in?

I think it more for the enjoyment of the owner. Yeah what do dogs care? Just give them the snausages and the belly rub and everyday is like a birthday for them!

Papa bear, you are going straight to hell. Do not cross go, to directly to hell. Your poor doggie. Never had a birthday party? Shame, shame on you. Repent and you can be saved!

The lady above me with the birthday party for a cat, gag me with a fur ball. I hate cats!!!

I celebrated my dogs 1st b-day on Dec 20th. I had a small cake for family and my "baby" got Frosty Paws. A frozen dog treat. AND...she wore a hat. :)

It would be abusive for the people who are going to eat the birthday cake... I mean ... come on you don't want to give me your dog's birthday cake? ...
