Religious people say it's taking a life, they fail to realize that a lot of the stem cells that have been used are ones that were not being used for reproduction and most likely would not have been used, so the cell would have "died" any way, might as well get some good out of it.

Embryonic stem cells are early forms of human life - so the controversy is around creating a human life and then using (destroying) it to do research. Since human life begins at conception, the human life must be protected and treated with dignity from conception until natural death. Any good that comes out of this research is nullified by the fact that a human life was destroyed in the process. Also, there are other available ways to do this research without the use of an embryo (placenta and umbilical cord blood and aAdult stem cells are also available from skin and bone marrow)

The controversy is over the use of EMBRYONIC stem cells because the only source of them used to be embryos, which are destroyed in the process, so some people consider it a form of "abortion". As there are now non-embryo sources of embryonic stem cells, this controversy should be over.

You're right. Fertilization therapy results in a lot of unsuable fertilized eggs. Some people prefer they be flushed down the toidy rather than being used for "moral reasons". I think they're idiots. If they would prefer to suffer through an incurable illness, let them. I'd rather they didn't make that choice for the rest of us.
But, they have egos, they have "The Truth", god talks to them, they're insane.

Yeah...if the cell would have been destroyed anyway, and there was no financial deal, why not????
But you try telling the Right-Wing, Republican, Conservative Southern Baptists that!

The people who complain about stem cells and abortions (mindless living organisms) are the same people who kill and eat plants (mindless living organisms) or love some eggs (at one point in time, a mindless living organism) with their breakfast.

It is purely a religious matter. You hear a thunderous protest by the Evangelicals when a microscopic human egg is lost. However, they approve the killing of thousands of Iraqis.
Makes sense, doesn't it?

Because people are in the grip of religious fanaticism in this country, and the evangelical right is giving them biased information...

That's not really the big ticket issue. Using what is available. What they are looking to do is 'harvest' them; use cloning
to do it as well.
Not that this answers your question, as asked.

Oh hello there. My name is the Frankenstein monster. I have nothing. No roots. No family. Nothing solid to fall back on. I am the weirdest person in history. Please don't burn me with your torch. I do have feelings. The big one is lonely.
