If you live on a farm, the 4 should help control rats and mice on the farm. Or if you have a large backyard and live in a rural area with lots of space, you might be ok having that many. You may want to check regulations in your area since some counties have limits on how many animals you can keep. You will also want to make sure if possible that the wild cats are neutered/spayed too, or you will have more of them to contend with soon. I assume the wild kitties are outside all the time, the 4 other kitties are well cared for, and that you have a house rather than an apt. Having 4 kitties would certainly smell up an apartment unit unless you are compulsive about cleaning up litterboxes.

NO! I have 9 cats and 4 of them are nuts. Dead mice in the beds and kittens all the time. They may be wild but I let them in and gave them food and a place to sleep. This is their home now and no one can just throw them out to the wild. Would you do that to a kid you adopted when you found out they were really weird? If you answered yes to that question then go ahead but if you didn't say you would right away don't.
It is just fine to have 8 cats. They're like chips, you can't stop at one.

Legally, it depends if you live in an apartment or in a house you own. You need to find out what the legal limit is in your county, state, and city.
Your question also brings to mind a funny saying "How many girlfriends is a man allowed to have? As many as he can afford."
Water is free, 9 Lives Plus Care urinary health formula food ranges from $10 to $14 for around 3 or 4 bags a month, Feline Pine litter for 8 cats is about $10 for around 8 bags a month and absolutely has to be changed EVERY DAY, Ear Cleaning Solution and Cotton Swabs for around $6 a month to clean 8 sets of ears, Frontline Plus monthly flea & tick medicine on Ebay costs $80 or more a month, spaying and neutering is a one-time expense, and ranges from low cost to expensive, annual vaccinations are around $30 and up, and emergency veterinarian bills, medicine, and surgery are run from $70 to $300 and up for each cat.
In a multiple cat household if one cat is sick you need to bring them all in at the same time, or they keep passing it back and forth costing you even more.
How many cats can you afford to keep?
Whether or not they are domestic or ferrel (wild) doesn't matter. Unlike humans after a while they will all get along.

8 cats, wow! I think that if you can take care of them financially and give them plenty of attention I think it's OK. (Also make sure the wild cats don't bully the other kitties)
You may want to make sure though that in your city there isn't any animals bylaws that restrict how many animals you have in one residence.... just to be on the safe side.
It's great you love cats so much and good luck with the wild ones.
=)

Yeah cats are kool as long as u dont have too many of them. However if ur willing to care for them and tame the wild ones i dont see the problem with having them. I think the worst possible scenario would be someone calling you a 'crazy cat lady' but i doubt it :)

Nothing wrong with having 8 cats. I recommend spaying/neutering the wild ones and slowly work on taming them.

If you have children, maybe. I don't know that much about wild cats though. I don't know that I'd want 8 cats, but I love them. Do what you want!

As long as you take care of the cats and have a safe place for them, you are fine. The wild ones, I assume are outside? I wouldn't allow the inside and outside ones to interact or the outside ones may pass on diseases.

Take them to the vet and get them all checked out (in case the wild ones brought in any diseases with them), their shots and get them all "fixed" so you won't be overrun with little litties and then it becomes a matter of logistics of your living space and them all getting along. A friend of mine owns 15 acres and has maybe 12 cats which hang around his barn and house, all checked by the vet and fixed before being added to the "herd" by the way.

Yes, if you can catch the wild ones. Take to the kennel the city maintains. Your domesticated cats could get bad habits.
