Love isn't an emotion, it's a decision.
I decide to put my wife's needs before my own.
I decide to get my wife flowers twice every month plus valentine's day and our anniversary.
I decide to arrange to have balloons sent to her on her birthday.
I decide to overlook her bitchiness as well as overturn many of her decisions that aren't in her best interests.
I decide to do things I know she appreciates.
I could be a thoughtless slob and think only of myself, but that's not love, is it?

Fantastic question. Thank you and I don't even know you. I just finished reading a commentary on the Song of Solomon two hours ago. The book was not written by Solomon but by an unknown author wanting to extol the wonders of love. Evidently the country folk liked to celebrate wedding feasts w/ the pagentry Sol was imagined to have. The key is at the very end. Solomon can have his 1000 w/ tenant/eunichs to tend them. The author will take his single woman and live in beloving bliss.
Looking to Sol for advice on love is a tad like looking into your sewer for fresh air.

Who wrote "Song of Solomon"?
Solomon never said there is not real love between a woman and a man.
Solomon had a lot of wisdom but in the end he made bad choices. We have more wisdom available to us now because of Jesus who is made unto us wisdom.
Love is not about wisdom. It is not just a knowledge. It is a matter of the heart and will and soul and spirit.
There is real love and the Bible shows this. Read the book of Ruth and the Song of Solomon. God created marriage and that true love that exists between a man and a woman. In fact the Bible commands it with two things.
"Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church." and it also commands wives to respect their husbands.
Christ's love for us teaches us the true love of God. From this we can learn how to love each other. This transcendent love is necessary in a marriage relationship and to this is added that physical intimacy and romantic love. People try to get romantic love through physical intimacy, but this is a failure. Marriage is foundational for true love between a man and a woman. True love cannot exist outside of this bound. If there is love between and a man and woman then they would automatically seek to be married. Those who are not seeking to be married but desire to have that true love and destined for failure. The marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman that makes it safe to show the trust and vulnerability that is so precious in the marriage relationship.
Pop culture is an utter despicable failure and should be given the funeral it does not deserve. It deserves to be buried like a dead animal, a rotten carcass tossed into a ditch. Anyone who wants to escape this madness needs to go to God the one who made us.

I think you are missing some important points here. Solomon was not following God when he took on all those wives from many countries who brought non-Christian beliefs to him. He was the one who screwed-up. He was immoral having all the wives and concubines.
All the other men you site from the Bible had one thing in common, they were immoral, they couldn't keep their pants on. The problem still is common today. Men just don't learn. They wreck their lives and the lives of the women they are with, not to mention cause heartache for their children and other family members.
Love and lust are two very different things. Real love is possible, you just need two people that understand what it is to make it happen.

Solomon is really up to date. Had lots of women but said there isn't real love between man and woman? What a bozo.
For something more contemporary, shouldn't you be consulting Fox News?

Let me Put it Short for u my dear,
The only real love exists between the Ultimate and a mortal, rest of all the emotions are based on interests and priorities.

Love? Read John 3:16. I think love has been revealed. Love man to woman? Read Job.Read Hosea 1 and see what he and Gomer went through. Man can, and does, love woman.

So Solomon never had a committed relationship and no one else can love.
Dumb.
My guy and myself have been together for more than 32 years, but christians make sure that is spit upon. They divorce, but we can't love.
