We just recently got a 11 month old puppy basset. We also have a cat. The two it seems have no problems, when the dog sleeps the cat comes and lays near the dog, when the dog is awake he wants to find the kitty and bark. It seems like he wants to play, but the cat wont have it. Is there anything I can do to make these two remain in the same room? Currently, I have my cat in my bedroom with the door closed or else the dog will bark non stop for hours....

No the cat does not bark back. He hides under the bed.

We do play with him, but the cat gets his attention first whenever we go near the room.

Give it time. It usually works it self out. When the pup barks Tell it "SHHHH' and No! in a stern voice. It wont happen over night but with time and consistency they will be the best of friends!
Good luck.
By the way I have 20 dogs and 3 cats.

I thoroughly accept as true with the reply that the problem is with the proprietor no longer the dog. The house owners could haven't any proposal this is happening if it stops once they get dwelling. A well mannered observe or quiet phrase would a good starting factor. There are dog trainers that can support dogs which in flip stops the barking. They regularly straighten out the homeowners first, then the effortless bit is the dog. If they're dependable house owners that must be ample, don't assume instantaneous outcome though. If it was once tied up on lead in a yard doing that , most folks would say that's cruelty and make contact with the authorities. It relatively is'nt any exceptional .

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/Oy0xT

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.
