resulting bill? They have billed me twice, and when I called, they said they would resubmit the bill. If the doctor's office knows which lab my insurance contracts with, shouldn't this be their error and do I have any recourse?

Ultimately, it is YOUR responsibility to inform the doctor's office where you labwork goes. Because there are thousands of insurance plans, each with different rules, it's impossible for the doctor's office to know your specific plan. Look at this way - they deal with a hundred plans a day, you deal with one.

You can try appealing it thru your insurance company, but unless you can prove that you informed the office where your labs go, get ready to negotiate with the lab's billing service.

Always make sure that information is clear, before anything is processed. Talk to the the Office Manager in your Doctor's office. Explain that the company is not contracted with your insurance company and you can only use a company that is.

They may tell you should have told them you could only use a company that is contracted with your insurance.

No call your insurance, this has happened to me before. If your insurance refuses to cover the bill, you can call your states insurance commisioner and they will get you the help you need.

Yes, you do. If you don't, it will go to collections, eventually to court, and you will lose. Sorry.
