I would really like to understand this. People who drink beer just slam one after the other. People drinking tea, soda or water don't do this. So why can't they just drink a beer or two and stop? I'm sick of being around people who don't see this as a problem. Would someone who does this please explain?

I know that it tastes ok on a really hot day or with pizza (maybe) but I guess what I'm asking is why can't some people just have 3 or 4 for a buzz and then quit. Why do they have to drink a whole 12 pack and get blitzed to the point of getting sick? Is that really fun?

To answer faerigal - It's because I seem to always end up with guys who drink like this. Just once I'd like to be able to go out and have a couple beers without having to deal with a sick, passed out drunk. He's a fabulous man except for this.

probably because they want to get drunk fast. not all people do this though i know several people myself included who can just have a beer or two nice and slow and be content. however if i want to get drunk i like to chug it because then i get a buzz real quick. it really depends on the person some people like to drink fast and get a buzz others like to just enjoy it and take it slow. some of it comes to competition too alot of guys and some girls like to see who can drink the most the fastest alot of drinking games focus on this making it popular with college kids.

Beer will get you drunk, but usually not too drunk because it fills you up before you can usually over do it. This makes beer the ultimate party beverage. Anything worth doing is worth doing a lot of, and this includes drinking beer. Plus, sometimes it just tastes really good and goes down like water. I've had some pretty fun times chugging many beers. Until you acquire the taste for it and drink a lot of it, you just won't understand.

Because beer makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Unfortunately soda, tea and water do not do this. One beer starts the good feeling just a little bit and if you have dranken beer before you remember it takes a few to get a really good buzz going. PS why does it bother you so much? Is it just because they don't seem to have the "self-control" to stop at two or is it how they might after like 6 or 7?

Most people drink beer because they like it, what's the difference of someone chugging a beer from someone chugging a pop?
To answer L.M.L's question, people don't want to wait until they're 21 because where's the fun of getting away with something if it's legal

It's absolutely crazy!!! I see it all the time too. It seems like its apart of American culture or simply just the norm for beer drinkers.
They like to get a buzz going and it takes quite a few beers to accomplish that. Its really nasty stuff.
I hate to be sexist but its even worse when i see young women guzzling down one beer after another. People bond and feel accepted among the group when they drink beer after another. Lushes are what I call them.

Not everyone who drinks beer in large quantities is an alcoholic. They drink it for the taste, or the buzz.

Beer drinkers are like a secret club...If you don't get it - your not in it!!
It is refreshing, and few coldies on a hot day are awesome.. The hotter it is the better the beer tastes...
I wouldn't waste time worrying about it, each to their own!

well look at it this way. a heard of buffalo will only move as fast as the slowest weakest one in the group which is actually best for the herd because when being hunted the slowest and weakest get picked off first there for increasing the speed and chance of survival for the rest of the group. now this works the same way in your brain. as you know the consumption of alcohol kills brain cells but naturally it is the slowest and weakest cells that die off first therefore making the brain a faster and more reliable machine.

It's a habit with me. Today I didn't start drinking till about an hour ago. Which is good for me. I have no intention of stopping until I go to bed.
