You need to gargle several times a day with warm salt water and maybe a little peroxide in it once a day. Drink lots of liquids, hot, and tea with honey. Drink chicken soup the Jewish mom's penecillin. take Vitamin C, use Chloraseptic spray for pain and advil to help you sleep. Hopefully you will get better soon.

Do not mess around! Tonsilitis can go real bad, real fast w/o anti biotics. Even with antibiotics you could end up in the hospital with an ENT shoving needles down your throat, while you are awake AND aware.(Like I did!) Oh yeah and it runs about $30,000. Trust me, suck it up and pay your doc out of pocket. See if he'll hook you up. Oh, and get your tonsils out. I am getting mine out next week. Gimme 10 points and I'll keep you posted... in short there is NO cure, only antibiotics. Sorry.

Get some powdered sage and make a tea out of it (steep it in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes, add a teaspoon of sage to it). Strain the sage out of it with a coffee filter. Use it as a gargle or drink it. Garlic also has great antibiotic properties. I kept myself from getting a bad earache from eating 3 cloves that were cut up and simmered in soup (about 4 mintutes don't over cook it) and I ate soup like that for 3 days (do this when you first get symptoms). It cleared up! My husband got the ear infection and had to get antibiotics that cost over 100 bucks, PLUS the doctor visit.

Gargle with warm salt water followed by Listerine and water at least 3 times a day.

It is time to say good bye to your tonsils. Sorry. No more meds, just go for it. If you don't it might result in something else. Be brave. Then you will never have to deal with that issue agian.

I don't think antibiotics would help in the first place. Isn't tonsillitis viral?
