What do you know about islam?

some people on here think they know a lot about islam and actually know nothing so if people know nothing about isalm why would they even answer questions about islam so i just want to know what you know about it and if you know a muslim person

I know a little bit about Islam, and am learning more every day, inshallah.

I know la ilaha il Allah, Mohammed rasool Allah. (There's no god but The God, and Mohammed is the messenger of God.)

I know that Islam encourages peace and harmony within families and communities, and teaches people to treat their children like little kings and queens, and paradise is at the feet of mothers.

I know that 5 prayers a day keeps a person aware of his actions and always attentive to what is right and what is wrong.

I know that in morals and values, Islam and Christianity are virtually, if not entirely, identical.

I know that sunni and shia "sects" are much more similar than different, and 99% of the percieved difference is really just historical animosity. The remaining 1% is minor issues which do not affect a person's status as a Muslim.

More, but that is all I feel like typing right now. : )

Well, The Arabic word 'Islam' simply means 'submission', and derives from a word meaning 'peace', Muslims worship only Allah and they submit to all what God says , they believe in all the prophets such as Jesus and respect him and consider him as one of the greatest messenger of God , but there is a big question here , what about those people who make the bomb attack ? this is not the true Islam , the prophet Mohamed peace be up on him said during the war time before 1400 year ago don't kill any woman or children or from these word you can see the moral it was in the war time but in spite of that he command the Muslims to not kill the innocent people , and all what you see now from tourisms we don't agree about it , by the way what tourism mean , dose it mean to kill an innocent people , ok what about those people in jails in American , Columbia , Mexico and Italy : the Mafia ,kidnapper ,drugs dealer ,serious killer as Dillinger who killed more than 100 person ,sure they are terrorist but they are not Muslims , they are Christian and Jews and so on ,so why we don’t say Christians are terrorists though 60% of criminals are Christians and Jews and you can see presents but we don’t say Christians are terrorist because there is a good people innocent christens people from that violence in every where the is the bad and the good and our hand finger are not the same , so terrorist is valiance and it's not Islam , we respect other people we help the poor people lie is forbidden kill innocent people shout at our parents , if you need to know more search please , you can give your opinion but after you such because if we all going to talk like that we will never reach anything thing if you are fair-minded you will discover

people don't know a lot about islam. they know a lot about muslim EXTREMISTS, ie suicide bombers, terrorists, etc. These are the people that are messed up and don't whatsoever represent islam. These people are fundamentalists, and I wish people would stop thinking these people represent all of islam. It's like saying all christians are part of the kkk...it's just crazy.
Islam is a peaceful religion that believes in all the prophets including jesus. It is not based on hate, but rather giving to the needy, and being a good person. I just wish people wouldn't be so ignorant as to think these extremists represent islam.

If Islam is about peace love joy .... then why is it that women are deprived ????? Muslim men marry small kids .... some of them are hardly 13 .... they women are not even allowed to step into a mosque .... what kind of religion supports this??? Does Islam really ask you to marry as many times as you want ??? Is this the only religion where you can kill without mercy ? Fly planes into bldgs in the name of God. Kill people in the name of GOD. I'm not condemning God I'm just trying to say that Muslims take literal meaning of their Qua ran.

Just about every conflict on the face of this planet is islam against someone or something, this is no coincidence. the radical islamist are out to subjugate and dominate. where are the voices of reason in this so called peaceful religion. those who dare to dispute it are threatened with death and mayhem.I need to know the answer to this question, why would an all powerful god put you here in the first place and then need his "faithful followers"to force you worship him, or kill you in gruesome ways? Why could'nt he just make you worship him hisself and cut out the middleman?no pun intended). HECK! why make you at all? just make a bunch of mindless automatons to worship you and problem solved. any ideaology that FORCES you to go against your freewill to choose how you worship is satanic,CHRISTIANITY lets you choose to worship. ISLAM forces you to worship.I could go to iran as a christian and cut my life expectancy dramatically.but a muslim is free to come to america or britain or most non muslim nation's and worship freely as long as he or she upholds the laws of that country.In the majority if not all muslim countries the childrened are indoctrinated into the faith .hate non muslims, kill the jews, christians,infidels,anything that does not agree with our way of thinking, again this is satanic and will lead to the final conflict, it is unfolding before our very eyes,just read the bible(daniel and revelation) and you will see jacob(israel) and esau(arabs-muslims),GOD and satan in the last days(we're there), ARE YOU READY FOR THE TRUTH?

I know islamic people are good and peaceful within the families and in their personal lifes as far as india, malasia and some countries are considered.

However their understanding of non-muslims is certainly not good.

I think muslims should be tolerant as non-muslims are towards islam.

I know that its a false religion.I know they hate christians and jews. I know that suicide is considered okay as long as you kill others in the process, its a form of jihad. I know that they don't believe that Jesus is God. I know that they deny Jesus ressurection. Yet Jesus claimed that he would be put to death, so wouldn't that make Islams believe that Jesus is a false prophet? I also know that Islam wants to conqueor the world and make everyone become Islam. It's more or less a governmental system, then a personal religion. Because You cannot force anyone into Christianity, it is a personal religion. Islam uses fear, to win people.

love it. it's the only way to live and supports the natural way of life. Men are physically stronger and don't carry babies, which is why they are to go out, work, and support their families. Women when pregnant are in a time of weakness and need a lot of rest, which is why Islam respects that and demands a man be especially sweet and kind and go out of his way to help her at this time. It also says it's degrading to a woman for a man to ask her to go out and work to support the family when she already has a very hard full time job cooking, cleaning, and raising the children. Women have that right should they choose, but they are not obligated in any way to give their husbands their money. Islam is the only religion that demands that women be just as much a part of society as a man. The difference being that the man cares for all finances, so in financial matters she must listen to him. Of course, if she has her own money, he has no control of it and she can do with it as she pleases. Islam also says she is not obligated to cook for her husband, clean his home, none of that. her only duty is to care for the children and enjoy marital life. Her husband is not allowed to complain about supporting his family. Another thing that makes Islam so great is that it gives mothers the highest respect of all living things and demands that one care for their parents in old age. They gave up everything in order to give you life, and many women gave up their figure. They put their lives on the back burner so that you could be given one and have one built up. To have your parents reach old age as you mature is a blessing, not a burden, and no matter how hard you try, you will never be able to repay your mother for all she had to go through with you. Let them be stubborn, let them be insulting. It's ok, because everyone as children was 10000 times worse than any adult could be. Islam is a practical, logical, scientifically proven way of life. If more people did a more research, learned on their own, used intellect and got the highest education possible about as much in life as they could such as Islam demands, they would see that we are only trying to preserve morals and live so that all of society benefits. As for those who are poor and can not afford food or clothing, Islam demands giving to the poor in everything. During Ramadan, muslims fast to humble themselves. It's to appreciate all they have been given in order to remain thankful. It's to feel the pain of the poor so that we keep on giving. Sacrifices are mainly for the poor, because 2/3 of the meat is mandated to them in charity. It's not about killing an animal, it's about bringing society together as a whole and indirectly giving charity to those too proud to seek it on their own. If people used rational thought and looked at islam from a pure heart, a sincere heart seeking knowledge, they would not feel so much hatred towards us. They would realize that suicide bombing is not islam, nore was 9-11. They would read verses in context, not pick half of a sentence and ignore the rest of it.
