the name is very important...watch the dog, play with the dog...his/her name should come to you based on behavior or appearance-DO NOT name it after a person, especially if it is a female...for some reason, women don't find that endearing...here are some names that fit the dogs we had...
ebony..black and white terrier
ginger..ginger colored 'mutt'
prince...the way he carried himself
zippy...the way he darted across the yard
maggie...had a toy pacifier, and would make it pop in and out like maggie on 'the simpsons'
rufus...the goofus
lucy...often crabby and bossy, like lucy from 'peanuts'
sweetie...fit his personality...and it got a few laughs, since he was a rottie/lab mix who grew to 130-140 lbs, but THE gentlest dog i have ever known
