Use a shampoo like Nizoral or a coal-tar based shampoo at least once a week.

Don't EVER use any shampoo with Zinc Pyrithone or Selenium Sulfide ("Head & Shoulders"). It will make your scalp itch like mad and flake.

Oh and let your head get greasy, don't wash your hair every day, try every other day to let natural oils get back into your scalp. It may be yucky but it works.

It's winter time. Since the air is drier, your skin and scalp should require more moisturizer than normal (like lotion). Also, since you wash your hair everyday you're getting rid of the natural oils that nourish the scalp. This could be the cause of your irritation.

Just a shot.

it very well may be your nerves too, i have that problem when i am upset, sometimes, before i wash my hair, i rub baby oil into my scalp really well, let it sit for 5to10 minutes than shampoo as usual, my hair dresser told me to do this rather than spend a lot of money, it does the same thing if your scalp is dry but only costs pennies, i buy my baby oil at the "dollar store", just a couple of tips that may help you. hope something works for you. good luck!! also, if i itch at night, i dab cotton balls in alcohol and dab my scalp, it works great for my itch.

Weather more than likely. Might I recommend a good conditioner as well. Stress could be a culprit also. My main suspicion lies in it being the middle of winter.

Try not to scratch to much.

You could have dry scalp. Try some shampoo designed for dry scalp---not for dandruff.
