The pan will lose its shape from doing this. Cheaper, thinner pans will be the first to go, but more expensive, heavy pans will suffer, too. Let it cool down, then wash it.

Pans will warp if you put a hot pan in water of ANY temperature. It may not be noticeable at first, but it will eventually. Even super heavy gauge pans, like cast iron are susceptable. Most cookware sets list this as something NOT to do in the directions....but few people read directions with a cookware set since there are no obvious confusing factors associated with the use of a fry pan.

Even hot water is too much of an extreme temperature change. Let your pan cool completely before washing it. If you are concerned with ease of cleaning, wipe it with a kitchen towel while it is still hot, but don't go near the sink.

No. According to the warranty information I have on my Calphalon cookware, you can not only warp your pan, but also void the warranty. As far as safety is concerned, pouring cold water into a empty pan that is hot can create steam, and you could get burned.
