You pretty much hit the nail on the head my friend. I've never heard the "relative" but everything else is well document for those who wish to know the truth. To quote "The DA Vinci Code" it's the greatest story ever SOLD. Also what most people don't understand is that a lot of passages were mistranslated or purposely changed. 1) Thou shalll not suffer a witch to live, wan originally Thou shal not suffer a poisoner to live.
2) and he walked upon the water, is actually he walked beside the water. and there are many other. The problem is that for over 1,500 year people have been told one thing, and now with evidence showing that it's wrong they don't want to let go. Further more, even though skill in writing was not as it is today, I can assure you that more people wrote about Christ work than there are "authors" in the bible. In the Council of Nicea, certain rules were agreed upon and anything counteracting those rules were either destroyed, hidden, re-written, or denounced as heresy. No one will EVER know the TRUE story of his life. because even using some of the answers you already got, many of the book were written after his death and we all know how much we look back on good things with nostalgia that alters our perception as to what actually went on. Also so many people misunderstand what the Council of Nicea did. They did not write the Bible, they chose which writing's made it into the bible and which ones went the way of the dodo. Man some people really need to do more reading.

Luther - The Bible HOLDS the Word of God as the manger held Jesus.
The Bible was written by dozens of people. Rabbis in the first century set the OT. The NT began around a core of Pauline writings, probably in Ephesus circa 80 a.d. The contents of the Bible were being debated in 1500 a.d.
Of course it has contradictions. The Bible was never written or meant to be read as perfect. Sheeeesh Louise. God is perfect. We believe God. We use the Bible to understand and grow in our faith walk. Some believers look on it as historically accurate because that is the way they were taught - just as many people believed for centuries the earth was flat because that was the way they were taught. Do you understand the 4 types of energy or quantam mechanics? No, but we both live by them every day.
If you want an illustration of how marvelous the Bible writers were - compare Genesis 1's adaptation of the Gilgamesh Epics. Fabulous reading.

The Bible's accuracy and reliability have been proved and verified over and over again by archaeological finds produced by both believing and nonbelieving scholars and scientists. This included verification for numerous customs, places, names, and events mentioned in the Bible.
One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
Bible scholar Donald J. Wiseman notes, "The geography of Bible lands and visible remains of antiquity were gradually recorded until today more than 23,000 sites within this region and dating to Old Testament times, in their broadest sense, have been located." Nelson Glueck, a specialist in ancient literature, did an exhaustive study and concluded: "It can be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a biblical reference." Well-known scholar William F. Albright, following a comprehensive study, wrote: "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of History."
There are more than 24,000 partial and complete manuscript copies of the New Testament. These manuscript copies are very ancient and they are available for inspection NOW. there are also some 86,000 quotations from the early church fathers and several thousand lectionaries (church-service books containing Scripture quotations used in the early centuries of Christianity). In fact, there are enough quotations from the early church fathers that even if we did not have a single copy of the Bible, scholars could still reconstruct all but 11 verses of the entire New Testament from material written within 150 to 200 years from the time of Christ. Bottom line: The New Testament has an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting its reliability.

Jesus is not God. He is a part of the trinity that is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit(father, son, holyspirit).
The bible was not written by a relative of peter. A relative of peter may have written a book, but the author of each book is know in 90% of the Bible. Many people contributed. The Bible does not have contradictions, feel free to use any reference you would like, they are all plays on words, which hold very little water.
I can't understand your last sentance. LOL
Godspeed with you quest for knowledge, you need it.

We still have in exist today over 5300 manuscripts of the New Testament. Of those, over 2,300 date from BEFORE the time of the Nicene Council (the group that the DaVinci Code claims wrote the New Testament). The manuscripts have been found all across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Many were preserved by groups that were not part of the Catholic church - and sometimes rivals to the them.
There are manuscripts that date back to within just a few years of the time they were originally written. In the case of the gospel of John, we have fragments from a manuscript that appears to have been copied with 17 years of the original. We have 170 copies of the four gospels and 230 copies of the writing of Paul copied during the first 50 years after they were written. (Kind of hard to have existing manuscripts of books that were not written until "hundreds of years" later).
The Bible books began with Paul's first letter in the year 48AD (about 18 years after the death of Jesus). All of the other books (except the Gospel of John and Revelation) were completed before 70AD. John and Revelation were written in the 90's AD, shortly before his death.
Inscriptions basing NT verses and quotes from the books exist in other literature as early as 52AD. If all copies of the NT were to disappear, it would be possible to recreate 99.2% of the text from quotes, inscriptions, liturgies, prayer books and hymns all written within 70 years of the time of Christ.
So at claim that the NT was written "hundreds of years later" or was altered by Constantine in 325 AD has no basis in the facts.

I would question your sources. You actually think that the entire Bible was written several hundred years after Jesus Christ? If that is true, then why are there Old Testament manuscripts older than that? And if what you say is true, then why do we have certain Old Testament scriptures found in various places including amongst the Dead Sea Scrolls?
If you are wrong with those obvious points, then who are those you are getyting that information from, and what are they really trying to inform you with? What possessed them to educate people with such poor scholarship?

I see you are an ardent student of the Bible. You know the things you have written because............ Have you ever read the Bible? The O.T was written before Christ was born. Some of the The N.T authors were friends of Jesus. They saw Him, talked to Him, spent a good deal of time with Him. Some of the N.T. .T. was written by disciples. These same disciples were with Jesus the night He was betrayed. Thew witnessed the Crucifixion. They saw Him after He rose from the dead. Their writings were just that..THEIR writings. Written by them, in their own words, in their own lifetime. Not 100 years later..

Peace!
Oral and written tradition handed it down from genersation to generation. There are many things in the Bible which are not meant as teaching. They are there for other reasons like geographical, cultural, literary, etc. You should read the Bible in the same level it was written - spiritual. If you read it this way God will speak to you throguh the pages of the Bible.

and old test books were well written way before God manifested himself and walked on earth. as far as translation goes it still stands. they showed it to be accurate in meaning and 98 percent accurate totall. the 2 percent is mostly commas and periods and grammar that we know have. or words that are now more modern and easier to understand. if you new how they translated the Bible you would understand how Gods Word can stay the same. as stated in the Bible that God said his Word will not change. and it has not. God created everything and is that powerfull then i am sure he can keep his Word from changing so that we dont know what truth is anymore.
and the Bible has ONE author but many writers. God is the one author for he told everyone who wrote what to write. for they were moved upon by the Spirit.

Several hundred years? Try 25 years...the book of Matthew was finished in 50 AD, and the Muratorian Fragment (the first listing of the Canon) was finished before the book of John and Revelation was finished.
Please do your homework, sir...and compare this with other major faiths (Islam, that couldn't decide what Mohammed said until 740AD, some 300 years after him.)
