They keep the top for the 1 year anniversary.It's a tradition.

I think it is supposed to bring luck - though after a year in the freezer the cake tastes AWEFUL!! Many cake balers now offer an option were your order includes a small replica of the top layer to be prepared for you on your first anniversary, so can carry the tradition without eating the crap.

It's a tradition that is really dumb I think. The cake gets all mushy and the frosting gets frost burnt. I'm not sure why but everyone has always done it in my family, and I'll probably be conned into doing it too.

Unless you have kept the piece of wedding cake in the freezer, eating it a year later will surely bring food poisoning.

That is the tradition to freeze it, thaw it, then eat on your one year anniversary. It means you have made it through your 1st year and should be good luck for the rest of your marriage.

We frooze ours and ate it one year after! I don't really know what it symbolizes except it is a tradition. Ours was not that bad! It was well wrapped in plastic wrap and foil.

dried up wedding cake? my grandparents froze the top of their 50th anniversary cake, and when they cut it a year later, it was Styrofoam!

Traditionally I believe it is eaten after the christening of the first baby. However, I believe each couple should do whatever pleases them regardless of tradition.

I don't really know ,,i think it's so ridiculous..just eat the whole damn thing ...people think it's cute and pretty to cut it , i guess,,,they know you can't eat it after a week , nevertheless, one whole year.....
