Between 1950 and 1990, landings were around 20 million pounds per year, according to the March 4, 2006, issue of the Bangor Daily News. In recent years, the catch has increased, with 2004 seeing landings of almost 71 million pounds and 2005 seeing just under 63 million pounds.

According to the Maine Department of Marine Resources, 62 million pounds of lobster were caught in 1990.
