I'm sure you attend family functions with your Parents, where there will be no other comment needed than "yes isn't it a lovely piece, My Parents gave in to me for Christmas". Wear it only when you think appropriate, and enjoy it for what it is, a piece of jewelry. Just the same way a friend gives you a friendship bracelet that you don't particularly care for. Wear it for her/their benefit, because you care. Chances are nothing more will come of it. If it does, then worry about it.

Look up the meaning of the cross. It can have other meanings than what you might think. Pick a meaning or make one up that the cross represents for YOU. Symbolism is wide open and even to people who don't believe in God, symbolism can have good representation or bad.
For example:
cross symbol
the basic shape of a cross, has since prehistoric times
been employed in almost every culture throughout the
world and all the roughly similar shapes of cross
symbols have wildly different meanings.
the cross variously symbolised health, fertility, life,
immortality, the union of heaven and earth, spirit and
matter, the sun, the stars... it is seen a world centre and
a cosmic axis, the cross represents the human form,
with its four cardinal points it can be mapped to fourfold
systems: the four directions: north, south, east, and west;
the 4 seasons; the four elements; the four winds...
Maybe it represents the cross roads of your life, from one celebrated season to the next, it is up to you to pick the direction!

I took my cross off, when I found out, that in Native American spirituality, it stands for the broken circle of the Native American people. The circle is a big thing with these wonderful people of the earth, as it stands for unity within all living creatures. When the missionaries came, they forced the Native Americans to wear crosses around their necks and they shoved wooden and other crosses in their faces, trying to convert them over to the Christian way of life..There was no true god for the Missionary, only the god of heaven and hell and damnation......and they preached and preached and tortured some of these poor people almost to death because of their (the Native Americans) old ways....
I used to wear my cross in honor and acceptance of "all" religions and spiritual beliefs.........in other words........I may not be a christian, but if someone else is.....that's cool...and that is the religion for them...(my mom gave me this cross, and I accept her, for being a christian, and I also wanted to acknowledge this).....even though, personally, I feel like it's more of a cult......but hey, that's my thought and I'll move on........but anyway.....the cross now symbolizes the breaking of the Native American spirit to me, and I no longer wear mine out of respect.

Of course its not rude to not wear it if you dont believe it. And they will understand that. It was probably their way of reaching out to you in a spiritual way. Don't throw it away- you never know what the future holds and maybe someday it will be special to you.

It may be painful for your folks that you aren't wearing the cross, but it would be hypocritical of you to wear it when you are a non-believer. I would put it away in a safe place (a jewelry box, perhaps) as it will be a memento of their love for you when you are old and grey.

I am a believer, and I would not wear a cross necklace. If you choose not to wear it, I would suggest that you tell your folks that it is not your style, and you would be happy to allow them to give it to someone else who might appreciate it.--- but then, that's me, and maybe that would not be a good approach to your folks.

I'm Jewish & I was given a cross for a gift over the Holidays. I have a Christian co-worker whom I love, so I gave it to her. I explained to her how I acquired it, & she gratefully took it from me.

Don't wear it. My grandmother gives me one every xmas but never seems to notice that I don't wear them. If it violates your personal beliefs, don't feel the need to make them happy.

Don't wear it. If it's not your belief, you shouldn't have to subject yourself to it. Unless they do some weird dress code check, they'll probably not even notice.
