The first evidence of HIV infection would be what is called "acute HIV infection." This occurs about a month after infection and resembles a the flu. You can have sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, fevers, headache, fatigue, etc, etc. Unless you are really suspecting HIV infection, it is very hard to distinguish from other infections.

After the acute HIV infection, the virus can lie dormant for many years.

There are none. HIV is a long, slow depletion of the immune system which makes one more susptible to other diseases such as pneumonia, lukemia, as well as other diseases. The only way to know if you have it is through blood tests but when it says positive you can figure you've already lost 10 years of your life since it can take up to 10 years to show up in the blood system.

HIV has no symptoms. HIV can develop into AIDS and then you would feel pretty punk and get sores and stuff. It's a nasty disease, but some people had survived 35 years. It is not a death sentence.
