I get alot of people making fun of me and talking behind my back because I have autism. People are really mean at my school in Kitchener, and I have really got angry at them. I have tried numerous attempts to prevent this from happening, but I always get stuck in a situation. Do you think this should continue. If not, tell me how this could be prevented?

I think it is totally unfortunate that your peers are such meanies, but I know that it is not uncommon for those who feel inadequate to pick on those they perceive to be more vulnerable than they are. Do you know what your gifts are? Do whatever you can to develop those gifts-- get all the supports you can-- because if you are someone with high functioning asperger's (and it sounds like you are) you won't be "stuck in a situation" where some of these more insecure people are for the whole of your life. I would suggest you do some research and find out how other (really successful) people with autism survived the torments of their peers.... Bill Gates would be a good person to start the study with.

God bless!

I was a lot like you. I understand how you feel, but don't get angry at them. Remember, a**holes are people too. Getting really angry at them will only make things worse because you're only giving them more reasons to make fun of you.

I know it's not easy but what you need to do is make more of an effort to talk to people and maybe joke around with them. This is the best way to prevent people from talking behind your back, or making fun of you and stuff. It's hard to do at first, but I know from experience that it gets easier. If you feel really uncomfortable trying to become social at your school right now, try going to another school and try to be more social there.

And try to remember that you're not the only person in the world that gets made fun of. Everybody gets made fun of sometime in their life. Famous celebrities get made fun of, even the President of the United States gets made fun of. For crying out loud, I've seen billboards on my way home from work that make fun of Bush.

Anyway, good luck, and I hope you follow my advice about trying to be more social

You are sitting here, speaking/typing just as any other coherant individual would. You've got to understand that the majority of people in our society have something wrong with them, and that they are generally cruel human beings, which they are not shy about demonstrating at a younger age.

It is said that autism can be destroyed, but I don't know much about it, and I can't tell you how to get rid of it. What I can tell you is to not completely accept the scientific communities information as the ultimate truth, because there are, indeed, many oppinions and possible solutions to various problems that you may find OUTSIDE of the scientific communities method.

I personally recommend finding a good martial art school, and taking that.

Have you talked to your parents or guardian about this? Do you have a guidance counselor at school that you could talk to about this?

Unfortunately, there are mean people who make fun of others for different reasons, but it is never right to make fun of anyone for any reason.

Try to get some advice from those who are close to you (family, guidance counselor, close friends). Maybe they can help you better than I can.

Hope all works out well for you.

I know a woman from our church and her son has autism and is taking art classess in college. Can you go to another school? Is it easy enough to ignore them? What about explaining to them point blank that it's nothing to laugh about. And maybe tell them to be careful what goes around, comes around. Someday maybe something could happen to them and they are being laughed at. Like if they do something embarrassing and others see them and they are laughed at. I feel if they see that it bothers you that they are mean (in what way are they mean?) or if they know it bothers you if they laugh at you, they will keep doing it. Show them that you don't care what they say. If nothing works you should talk with the school authorities and your parents to try to straighten things out, or go to another school. I wish you luck.

I wish I could tell you, I don't know. My heart goes out to you. It really sucks. I had to wear braces on my legs in school. Had the same thing happen. Kids, and people can really be cruel. I wish I knew how to stop it, but I couldn't.

You are right some people are very mean and hurtful, try your best to avoid those people however when you cannot try to ignore them and when they will not let you ignore them you should seek help as what they are doing is not OK.

That sucks! Some people are freakin idiots. I apologize for their ways. Maybe you should try home school. My daughter got into some crap at school so I pulled her out and she does it here.

You need more peace of mind and happiness and then you will care less about what they think. They would not be doing this if they were happy. They are doing this since they are miserable. You can choose to not be miserable and be happy. It is your decision.

Try to control what you can control. Do not try to control what you cannot control. See site below to be happier.

TRY TO JUST NOT THEM GET TO YOU. IT'S THEM AT FAULT AND I KNOW IT'S NOT FAIR, THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO GET YOU UPSET, SO JUST DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THEM AND WALK AWAY AND DON'T SAY ANYTHING. WISHING YOU THE BEST. IT'S BETTER WHEN YOU GET OUT OF SCHOOL.
