I don't think your chihuahua is truly depressed, I think he is just tired from the days activities. It is natural for dogs, mine is the same. Also my dog prefers to sleep in a "hide out" at night, I think it makes them feel safe like it is a den. I don't think he needs a "love mate". However, if you do get female, please have both dogs neutered. The world doesn't need anymore "love puppies"!

When we got our first chihuahua{male}, he got really depressed and lonely, {seperation anxiety}, when we had to go out and leave him home alone. We decided to get another chihuahua{female}, not only to keep him company, but because we wanted another Chihuahua. Ever since we did that, he's been much happier, and now has someone to play with, and they are totally in love with each other, it's so cute. I would like to suggest, that if you do get a female, and you don't want puppies, make sure you get her or both of them fixed.

If you want puppies (lol) just kidding :) But we did have a male chihuahua once that "adopted" one of my kids' stuffed toys and we named it "the love pig". He seemed content with it.
