drop them in a sink filled with extremely hot water, after letting them sit a few min. the wax will lift right out.

I often put votive holders in the freezer for about an hour, and the remaining candle pops right out. This may work, if there's quite a bit of wax left in your holders

I know another method that will work, but you'll have to be careful. Place the votives on old newspapers and use a hair dryer on low heat to melt the wax. Don't hold the dryer too close, or the wax may melt too quickly, blow out, and make a mess. As the wax melts, wipe it out with paper towels. Then clean the votives well with glass cleaner or soapy water when all the wax is removed.

Exert from websight below:

"The best thing to do with glass votive holders is to prevent the wax buildup in the first place. If you place a tiny bit of water in the bottom of the glass votive prior to placing the candle inside, it should prevent the wax from sticking to the votive."
