I have a cold sore. I kissed my boy friend and now all around the side where my lip ring is (The opposite side of my cold sore) is swollen... is this because the cold sore germs got into my lip ring hole? And how can I make it better? Is it possible to pass herpes from cold sores to the genital areas through oral sex?

You might have an infection. I'd switch out your piece and clean it out good. (Douse the new piece with alcohol.)
Also be careful around certain facial cleansers which can irritate a lip piercing.
A cold sore can be passed from any mucous membrane to another (anything pink).

Yes, sounds like you've passed the infection along. The problem with piercings is that you've made a hole in yourself that nature didn't intend. Keep it clean by washing it frequently. Also wash your lip ring itself in a mild antibacterial like peroxide.
As for your second question, yes, you can pass herpes from cold sores on your mouth to the genitals. Herpes Simplex I is the virus that causes your cold sores. Herpes Simplex II is genital herpes. Herpes I can become Herpes II quite easily with genital contact. Avoid oral sex while you have a cold sore.
