No, I think that free abortions should be provided by the government for anyone wanting one, as well as free birth control, and free euthanasia. All provided free for anyone who wants it.

That way the reproduction rates of people who think these things are okay will fall and the sensible people can take over.

Seriously though, your plan wouldn't do any good to curb retardation over time, you would simply keep having to murder babies. It wouldn't get the genes out of the gene pool, because they are recessive genes. Most of the time they don't express. They only appear in children if both parents carried the gene, and then only with a 25% chance of expression as a disability.

Now if you ordered blood testing and murdered all the people who carried recessive genes for various kinds of retardation, you would get them out of the gene pool.

Another option would be to mandate people getting blood tested before they get married, and any couple that shared a recessive gene for a particular disability would not be permitted to marry.

This last idea has already been tried, albeit on a voluntary basis, in the State of Israel. There is a company ominously, and quite disgustingly called Dor Yeshurun (Generation of the Upright. Originally used in Jewish literature torefer to morally pure communities, but here used to refer to ugenically designed children), that will give you a blood test, test for various genetic faults, and assign you a number. When you begin dating people, they give you their number and vice versa, and when you get home you call Dor Yeshurun, enter the two pin numbers, and the recording will tell you if there are any shared recessive defect traits.

Personally I think it is disgusting and just another example of how Israel somehow subconsciously worships the third Reich.

Of course not. Many mentally disabled human beings are gifted and talented in other areas, well beyond regular 'able' people. And many are not cruel and inhumane, but have a sense of understanding being that they have been treated 'differently' by 'normal' humans. Most understand that they are different.
And I will point out to you that you are inhumane and do not understand at all the problem that people who think as you do create for society as a whole. The biggest cost to society's ills is not money, but those who put monetary value on life. Like the thief who takes life when stealing money or goods. When you try to get rid of a certain group of people simply because you are uncomfortable with them or what you perceive they cost society, you are actually saying how uncomfortable you are with yourself. That in itself is a mental disability. Find some help. Hopefully, you won't cost anyone too much money when you do.

No. Any one of us, including you, can became mentally disabled - just think you can have a car accident and loose some of your brain... Do you think we should kill you just because you lost some mental capacities? Do you think a soldier injured defending you and your country should be killed because he becomes mental disabled to protect you?
Science can now predict some severe mental and physical problems before birth and let parents decide if they want to let the baby born or do an abortion.
In the near future many other medical conditions will be predicted in early stages of pregnancy.
Your dollars are well spent if they can provide people less capable then yourself some kind of happiness. Parents, relatives and friends of disabled persons know the cost and they are grateful to you!

As someone who has worked in group homes, Id have to say you are sadly misinformed. Those billions of dollars create jobs for the people who take care of them. The "disabled" also go to workshops for 8 hours a day, where most of them do sweatshop assembly work for pennies (ex for every 100 boxes you fold you get 2.00). Others have their own jobs, and just need a little guidance and protection (from people like you). All people are capable of contributing to society. No matter what their IQ is.

Depends on how you look at it- in order to evolve to greater fitness, everyone with a genetic defect would have to be sterilized. It does not just include mental disabilities, but any genetic defect. I have poor vision- I would probably be in trouble depending on how strict the ruling was.
The human race is still evolving yes, but I do not think towards a greater society. Humans, as a whole, are becoming weaker with more defects because people who would have normally died because of their problem are now allowed to live on and have kids- passing on the defect.

Think of how annoying you are, yeah I would do something about you. Just so you know some of the greatest minds in the universe had metal disabilities. You know that if we killed everyone with mental disabilities we would still be using candles, lanterns, and torches for light.

No. Even mentally retarded, these people are still way better than those who are evil and totally selfish. As a matter of fact, not every one becomes mentally retarded from birth defects. You may become mentally retarded after a head trauma for example, would you want yourself to be eliminated after that? Mentally retarded people are loved by those who care about them. Have you ever seen the movie "Gattaca?" It stars Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, and addresses the overall issue of weeding out genetically "inferior" people and a social hierarchy resulting from "designer babies."

Watching it could be the beginning of some very badly needed sensitivity training.

Usually it's impossible to tell who's mentally disabled at birth. We can, of course, tell Down Syndrome.
In our society, we do not commit infanticide.
It would be better if the pregnancy could be terminated early for obvious chromosomal defects.

No- not unless you can kill all the rapists, child molesters, thieves, criminals, racists, murderers, and other people who dont deserve a spot on my planet- and since too many have soft spots for losers, that wont happen. under no circumstances should we judge a person who isnt up to your standards of an "appropriate" life... they deserve a chance to live!

Handicapped people deserve just as much a right to live as any of the rest of us. It is up to god to choose or not if they should be on this planet- not a human......
