why did Abraham and Jacob marry their wive's handmaids to have children? Why didn't they be the man of the house and say NOOO? Any thoughts? I think its cause both couples were so desperate to have children, they stepped out of God's will.

when they realized that both wives could not give birth so their wives told them that they could marry another woman and have a child so that their name can be brought down. Abraham's wife, Sarah, told him that it is ok for him to marry another woman so that he can have a child with her, soon after G-d made Sarah pregnant. Jacob was tricked into marring another woman (his furture wife's sister).

It is God's will that man does what ever the man in charge at the time determines is right and proper. As the world's morals change so does God's will. Sort of implies that what happens on this world is not God's will but man's desires.
