You can no more catch a cold from the cold weather than you can catch a hot from hot weather. If weather was a factor in catching things then why is an operating room set at sub zero temperatures and why isn't there an illness called rain.

Colds are caused by viruses (NOT BACTERIA--which is why antibiotics don't help a cold)

You don't catch a cold by going outside without a coat or go out with wet hair or wet feet, you don't catch a cold by sleeping without covers, or dancing in the rain.

You catch a cold by shaking hands, by walking within 15 feet of a person who coughs or sneezes without coving thier mouth, you catch a cold by touching a doorknob, a shoping cart, or the buttons on the ATM machine.

WASH YOUR HANDS and don't touch your face if you don't have too and you elimainate a lot of germs from entering your body.

The weather does NOT have the germs required to give anyone an illness...the people all around you indoors who are sneezing and coughing and snotting all over the place...THEY give you colds(Plus a host of other illnesses) NOT the weather...

No, you get them from spreading the cold virus via shaking hands, door knob, telephones, etc. That is why hand washing is so essential. Cold actually kills germs, but in winter we heat our homes and buildings and germs like to thrive in warm humid places. There are over 200 cold viruses and once you get one type you can't get it again.

The thing is, when it's cold, your body uses more energy to keep yourself warm and all that jazz, so you have less, which can leave you susceptible to illness. However, illness is caused by germs, so in a way, you're both right. Isn't optimistic compromising GREAT?! :D

you're right - germs cause a cold...not being cold...wash your hands and don't tough your eyes, nose or mouth...drink lots and you should be able to avoid a cold - of course being very cold for an extended period of time may strain your body and reduce your ability to fight infection

You can only get a cold from viruses/bacteria.
You can however, get a chest/head cold from going outside when it's freezing and being sweaty or underdressed.

i asked my dad, a pediatrician, this once. he said that people crowd inside during the winter and so germs spread faster from person to person and therefore it causes bacteria to spread faster.
