I played volleyball in high school and I would have to say the key to blocking is always keep your eye on the ball, if you follow the ball with your eyes till it gets to you, you will always know where it is at and will not have to fear the ball, also, have a good jump. good luck!

I am told I have a "big block" to hit around, and have been known to block some of the better male players on the leagues I play on. The thing I do the most is look at what hand they hit with, their timing, and what would I do with the set.

I hit as well as block, and as a hitter, I know what I would do with each set given to me. My hit depends upon the height of the set, the place on the net the set is coming down at and where the "holes" are on the other side of the court. When I block, I watch the hitter to see where they are angling, and then I look at the set and figure out what I would do, then jump, penetrating with my hands as much as possible. A full block (where the ball never comes over the net) is the best, but even getting a touch on the ball as a blocker is good. It does two things - it slows down the ball for your team to get, and it makes the other team remember you the next time the set goes up. If you can touch it, then you will block it eventually. Setters tend to look at that and watch dipping into that well too many times.

Just get your hands up and fight to touch the ball - the rest will come in time, and you will be a great blocker!

2 things:

if you aren't in the right spot (people are hitting around your block), you aren't anticipating where the hitter is going to make contact with the ball good enough. think as if you were the hitter, where the ball is going to be when the hitter hits it, and slide sideways to that spot to block.

2nd thing: (if people are hitting through/off your block) when you arms start to clear the net, start to press them forward over the net. This is legal.
Also angle you hands slightly down, and if you are on the outside turn you arms/hands slightly so a ball that hits you will deflect back into the court not out of the court. You need to bring your arms and hands back when you are coming down to avoid contact with the net. This you can practice yourself without a ball.

If you are in practice or warming up, have a couple people help you with your block. Tell your teammate to hit into your arms so you can feel better if you're doing it right, and so you can gain confidence.

So: read the set, slide over, jump, press your arms and hands forward (angle in if necessary), then get arms and hands back.

good luck.

Just be sure to have your eyes open and square your shoulders to the net and just use your hands to guide the direction of where the ball should land on the opponents' side of the net. I used to have a problem blocking but my coach worked it out with me. You should really ask your coach to spend some extra time with you after practice in order to get rid of that fear. It's a normal reaction but you can get better at it. Maybe you aren't meant to be a middle blocker also. You should try out other positions as well such as outside hitter or a digger in the back row. Just try your best and if you really love it, try to put in the extra hard work. Good luck

Well I too am a blocker and what I do is I just keep my eyes on the ball when its on the other side of the net and just jump when it looks as its going to come over the net my way, and it doesnt hurt to jump even if the ball isnt coming near you, it helps as a distraction for the other team.

Um some girls on my teams where having a hard time with this too. If you can watch the hitters arm to see where her arm is heading and move your arms in her way it is much more effective that way. Also if you are the one closest to the sideline when blocking outside or rightside then make sure your arm that is closest to the sideline is curved in toward the inside of the court so when you block the ball wont go out Hope that helps

well you gotta not be afraid. when the ball is set on the other team get in ready possion and fallow the ball w/ eyes and body. when the goes to swing jump and reach as high as you can. try to flex your arm muscles and the ball will have less of a chance. stick you but out and hands forward. (all of this while your jumping.) o yea make sure your reeally close to the net(well your hands and wist) if not the ball will fall down on your side of the net. if this dose then make sure you dig it up a block is not a hit.

It's really fun to block all you do is jump as high as you can and try to hit the volleyball with out hitting the net. Practice to get height (get lower to jump higher to spring up).

As a coach, i look for enthusiasm besides as ability. prepare primary, stay after if needed. Your overhand serve.... carry the ball up w/ a million hand on the top of your head. With the different arm draw it returned like a bow and arrow, retaining it above your head. provide the ball a quick toss.... that's the toughest section for gamers. you will desire to have a controlled bypass. Hit the ball at that's zenith otherwise that's going to bypass into the internet. As you hit the ball, confirm which you do stroll via. Then get returned interior the sport, do exactly not stand there and watch it! sturdy success!!
