My computer always seems to be freezing up for no reason, and I was wondering if upgrading to a new operating system would change that?
Thanks in advance.

I'm using a Windows ME, and it occasionaly freezes up when I try to copy and paste, going to a black screen with green bars at the top. It didn't do this when I first had it, and it started about three or four years ago. Sometimes it just acts stupid. EX: It will go to the dreaded blue screen when I try to shut it down, I hit a button, it goes back, and the process starts again. *shakes head*

I would check inexpensive solutions such as driver updates first.

While it could, most freezing issues are hardware related; hard drive, video card, memory.

You wouldn't even need to upgrade the OS. Reinstalling the same OS would work too.

You may also want to see what is running in the background by checking your task manager. Also, you can type "msconfig" in the Start > Run and see what loads up at bootup. There could be a program running in the background that hogs your resources.

It depends on the operating system you are using right now and the installed devices. If you are running win95, win98 or winME, my best bet is upgrading to winXP will solve the issue, as long as your installed devices are compatible with XP. Check compatibilty on microsoft's website. Now, if you are already running XP, try downloading the newest drivers for your devices. A fresh OS reinstall can help, too.
