ask strangers, who aren't qualified, for advice. Why don't they go to a vet first & discuss it later? Please don't tell me its because they can't afford it. They should have considered that before they took on the responsibility. These messages are driving me crazy. I can't believe how many stupid, irresponsible pet owners there are. Amazing so many animals survive their domestic experiences. No wonder we have thousands of poor, injured strays wandering the country. They ran away from home so they didn't have live with their stupid owners. If you get a pet, do the right thing. If you adopted a baby you wouldn't say you can't afford a doctor if it were sick. If you think a pet is any different, then don't get one. It's a living breathing thing that can't live on love alone. It needs health care, consideration & common sense to survive.
SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PET Its the only way we can protect against more generations of homeless, neglected animals in the clutches of idiots.

Some of you are missing the operative words in the Subject line which are "OBVIOUS PAIN" I know people try to educate themselves to deal with menial problems. That's a good thing. I am not referring to them I am referring to the people who have a pet who is (by their description) crying in pain, or passed out with its tongue hanging out or the one whose kitten sounds like it has a broken hip or legs and another whose cat is screaming and is bleeding from its rectum. Those are the idiots I am referring to.

I feel the same way...it is disgusting that people just don't care. I rescue cats and it is unbelievable the kind of people that want to adopt a cat. Some just won't "waste" their money on vet care.
I know they would rather spend it on something worthwhile like booze or smokes.

Responsible pet owners use discretion. They know when it is important to see a vet ASAP and when to ask if that is necessary before doing so. Pets hate the vet, remember this. And they are expensive. If people ran off to the vet every time something MAY be wrong with their pet, they wouldn't be very responsible owners either--they would be draining their finances to the point at which they couldn't afford it if something really did go wrong with their pet.

It is best to ask first when you have a legitimate question. "My cat has the sniffles. Could this be something more than a cold?" is legitimate. That is a good owner, an owner who wants to know if subjecting his cat to the vet is necessary. "My cat's bleeding profusely. Is this bad?" indicates a bad owner.

A good owner, as I said, uses discretion. Saying every question on here is without merit and without care for the animal is competely misguided. I agree with you at times, yes--some people are asking stupid questions and risking their animals lives. But, in general, the questions are legitimate and important--and they result in the better health and happiness of pet and owner.

this was very well put. I agree that people should really consider the care And expense of a animal before they bring one into their home. Nothing distresses me more than seeing an animal neglected which is nothing more than abuse.

I have taken the steps to make sure that if I was to Die that my pets are well taken care of afterwards. I know that they would need a great deal of love and care to deal with the change in their life. These are intelligent beings and should be treated as such.

I agree get pets spayed and neutered.

Ok, sometimes people adopt pets and circumstances change, so maybe they can't afford the vet. And you have to figure, they aren't ignoring their pain, they are hoping someone on Yahoo! can help them.

Also, and this is what I do, since my dog has a chronic problem, I look for alternative answers. One on my guys was on antibiotics for 5 years, over $100 a month, found out about a tablespoon of apple Cider vinegar in his food worked just as well as the drugs.

BTW - I am unemployed, I don't go to the doc or get meds cause I can't afford it. So it is the same situation for my dogs. Although last month, I did put $300 on the VISA for one of them.

So please stop being so self-righteous.

People ask for advice for the same reason people shouldn't go to the ER for a cold. I don't go running to the doctor everytime I have a headache or migraine and believe me, that is pain.

Sometimes, if you are not familiar with an animal or a situation you would like to know if there is something easy you can do at home before running to the vet.

Most people ask for advice because they realize their knowledge is limited and would like to know more. There are several very qualified people on here.

The buddha tells us that a poison mind sees a poison world. I am sorry for your poison.

There are many irresponsible pet owners its true. But don't condemn people for trying to be better.

I feel the same way. Not all of the questions are illegitimate, but some of them are just plain ridiculous. When your pet is obviously in a lot of pain, bleeding uncontrollably, convulsing, or urinating blood, it is in serious need of medical help. At that point the pet just desperately needs a vet and not an owner wasting his or her time here asking silly questions with obvious answers.

first of all, its called humanity, and i hate to break it to ya, but there arent alot of smart people out there anymore, i'm sure everyone can c what i'm getting at. the reason they dont go to the vets is pry cause there lazy, and not every animal that gets adopted is treated like s***. i mean, things change, time changes, this is just an example, but say you adopt pet, and then in a few months, you get fired,or a loved one without insurance dies, u lose financial balance, i mean, sometimes things happen, things change, time stops for no one. and not everyone is as concerned about animals as others, people are different, you may think there equal or almost equal and deserve the same treatment as humans, but some people dont believe that. i certainly dont think animals are equal, the constitution inst written for animals. and idiots get a hold of alot more than animals,

ok dude calm down. the reason people ignore obvious pain in animals is that many believe animals are nothing more then organic machines, everything they do is just reacting there is no thinking or emotions invovled, as least thats what they believe, also many don't view animals as being a big priority, they don't feel its a big deal if they're dog just got hit by a car or not. as to why ppl get animals and then abandon them or abuse them? I don't really know.

I understand your frustration and you are very correct. When people adopt a pet they are making that pet a family member and should make sure that they can emotionally and financially take care of their pet. People should spay and neuter their pets. There are affordable spay and neuter clinics.
