Lexapro and other SSRIs have been shown to cause sexual side effects in some patients, both males and females. Although usually reversible, these sexual side effects can sometimes last for months. This disorder is known as Post SSRI Sexual Dysfunction. Also may cause weight gain in certain people.

Sexual side effects tend to continue as long as you are on the medication. They're the reason I have gone off quite a few antidepressants. The ones that had the worst sexual side effects for me were Effexor and Lexapro. It sucks because the medications themselves were very helpful. I can't wait until science discovers a way to avoid these side effects. (Wellbutrin is the one antidepressant with a very low risk of sexual side effects.)

It's also said that any antidepressant or anxiety medication can take several weeks if not months for you to notice the benefits rather the side affects. If it's really serious, talk with your doctor and see if they think you should try something else. Just don't stop taking the Lexapro without talking to the physician first.

I took Lexapro for anxiety and my husband is currently on it for the same reason..we both have found it to work very well, and quicker than other antidepressants.
Neither of us experienced the sexual side effects.

lexapro is an antidepressant.I started on 10 and than was upped to 20s. altogether used them around 2 years but even after weaning off them slowly it was very hard because I had many side effects including dissiness and off balance. never had any sexual side effects. you can call your pharamacy and they will tell u all the side effects or type in lexapro meds side effects and it will tell you alot. also let your doc know of any weird happenings

Most everything but the weight gain and loss of libido usually goes away within a couple of weeks. When Lexapro does hit you sexually it tends to be anorgasmia, i.e. you can't orgasm no matter how much romance and/or porn is involved.
Apparently turns out to be no better than placebo with bad side effects.
