In Luke 21:25-32 Christ tells his followers about the end of the world and his pending return from heaven and then tells them that their generation would not pass away before these things happened. That was a little over 2000 years ago. Little late now is he?

Hi. Well, this is the only time when we actually do see ALL these things (as Christ foretold) happening at the same time. There were easily prophecies that described the end times, the 70th week. (See Daniel.) But none of previous history could be end times until Israel became a nation again. That occurred in 1948. Then, the verse about "this generation" probably didn't begin until Israel took control of Jerusalem (which occurred in the 7 day war in 1967.) The end days is the 70th week of the prophecy of Daniel for Nebuchadnezzar. If you do the count, according to the Jewish calendar (360 days a year) then it falls upon the year 2012 being something different. Interesting! Prophecy gives us the signs of when Christ's return will occur: a world leader, the revival of the Roman Empire, a Union such as the European Union that divides the world into 10 sections, a 7 year peace treaty with Israel... The rapture occurs before the treaty is signed. But all the prophecies that were needed for the return of Christ (which is 7 years after the rapture!) have "recently" been fulfilled. Dr Jack Van Impe is a great prophecy evangelist. You can watch videos of his programs free, online. You can also ask questions at his site.

He also says that "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[a] but only the Father." Jesus does not know when he will return, based on that statement.You may then question the validity of the Holy Trinity, but if you will remember, Jesus tells us to give alms so that the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Perhaps this is the same way. Good question.

This cannot refer to the generation living at that time of Christ, for “all these things” -- the abomination of desolation, the persecutions and judgments, the false prophets, the signs in the heavens, Christ's final return, and the gathering of the elect -- did not “take place” in their lifetime. It seems best to interpret Christ's words as a reference to the generation alive at the time when those final hard labor pains begin.

"With God one day is a thousand years, and a thousand years are one day." it has been only a very short 2 days since the time of Christ's prophecies and that would certainly count as "soon" or "at hand".
2Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
What God has promised will come to pass. Peter's argument is that there is no difference whether a promise is near (one day in the future) or far (a thousand years in the future). God does keep His promise for He is faithful, and what God has said will come to pass in the time that has been promised for its fulfillment. God has never been late, nor will He be late!

:
2 Thess 2:1-5
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

I just love the fulfillment of prophecy!

"First of all you must understand this: In the last days mockers will come and, following their own desires, will ridicule us by saying, "What happened to his promise to return? Ever since our ancestors died, everything continues as it did from the beginning of creation." (II Peter 3:3-4)
