Hi! I am a recovering home-hair-coloring-addict and I feel a relapse coming on! Please tell me how not to screw this up!

I have naturally dark blonde hair, brown eyebrows, "warm" medium skintone (I'm white, tan easily, but can also get burned), green eyes.

My hair doesn't LOOK reddish at all, but pulls ALOT of brassy gold tones when bleached. This has led to many tear-filled nights trying to torture my "Dennis-The-Menace Yellow" hair to platinum. The millionth time I did this I decided to leave it to the professionals & got much better results!

Now I'm unemployed (BROKE!) & have interviews lined up & want to look great but have BAD ROOTS on my light blonde hair. I want to dye my hair light-med brown to cover my roots and look more professional until I can afford to have it done right at a salon.

Am I gonna screw this up and regret it? What products should I use? Please help! I am such a baby about this!

I have had this same problem before but the professional was the one who screwed up my hair. She turned it so orange I had to have a friend of mine go to the store to get me some box dye.

As long as you're going darker, I'm sure it will turn out okay. I have used Preference by Loreal time and time again and it has NEVER failed me. I have naturally dark blonde hair as well.

Just don't use anything that says "ash". Try the medium brown, it'll look dark at first but will fade to a more natural dark blonde-light brownish color after a couple shampoos.

Good luck!

Go to a beauty supply store and go to the color isle and look for loreal and get a medium blonde and an ash blone some developer 20 volume, and use one ounce of the medium blonde then add one ounce of the ash and 2 ounces of developer and leave it on about 30 minutes u can check it and see how it is grabbing after 15 minutes by getting an end of a towel and take a little bit of the hair (enough to be able to see) and rub it with the towel between your fingers and look at the color in the mirror taking into consideration it will get lighter looking after it dries but it's your hair u know what color u want. Then rinse it off and do a deep conditioning treatment the same day (you will find the packets of condtioner at the beauty supply store) leave that conditioner on at least 30 mins also Good Luck and e-mail me when u do it and let me know!!!! ps. the ash color will help with the brassy goldtrust me i'm a hairdresser of 30 yrs

You were right to leave it to the professionals. If I were in your situation, I think I'd go back to the salon professionals and ask their advice. Maybe they'll take pity on you and touch up your roots so you can make the interview and then you could pay them back once you land the job. Couldn't hurt to ask. Don't mess with your hair It remembers!

try revlon light brown hair. your blonde hair is going to suck up the color fast. I'd leave it on about 10 min first see how it turns out you can always wash dry and reapply if you need to. It will work out fine. I also had dark roots and blonde hair from keeping it blonde, i use dark ashe blonde but i like the reddish tint, but if you do not use light brown, not med or dark because the blonde is going to suck up the dark color. Good luck, it'll be fine remember you can always add more dark color if its not dark enough. it'll be good plus revlon is a good hair color and its not expensive, my hair dresser recommended it.

why not just get a root touch up kit there no more then 15 $ at most and color the roots the same color you have if you keep changing the color its going to damage your hair and eventually it'll all fall out i know i didn't make your fear any better but try not coloring your hair anymore for what i see your hair is probably damaged already

Unless you're getting a job as a model, don't mess with your hair too much. Neat & tidy is best.
How LONG is your hair. Is it frizzy? Can you put it in a bun?
How much time per day do you spend on MAINTAINING your looks (touch up of makeup, etc) ?

Do you have a Sally's Beauty Supply near you? You don't have to be a stylist to shop there. The people who work there can answer any questions yo have and show you what colors to use or mix.
