Ducks make great outside pets. They are affectionate and fun to watch and will follow you around like dogs.
They make horrible indoor pets. They are messy with their food and crap quarts of vile smelling liquid poop. Don't even think of keeping one indoors.

Any bird that is domesticated can be a great pet. They just take time and effort. Personally, I prefer the caged bird. ducks tend to make its home outside and probably wouldn't thrive well in a cage. They need a body of water to swim and dive for bugs.I think a relationship is possible, just think about its needs and such. Have a ducky year.

It depends on your setup. We had a small pond and had several ducks. It was really a pain. They'd poop all over the yard for one thing. We had to pen them up at night (our pond wasn't deep or wide enough to keep them safe from predators - mostly dogs) and the raccoons would raid their nests for eggs. We had a dog that would roll in their poop - GROSS! Then we had a baby and once she was playing in the yard, we gave them to someone with a bigger pond.

It really depends on where you live. When I was little, my mother bought some baby ducks and we raised them. They are fun to watch and see them grow. However, we lived out in the country.

No, because, you'd have to build a pond at your house cuz ducks thrive to swim. But if you do have a pond or you wanna make rhe sacrafice to build a pond, then great!

We had a mallard when I was a kid. They are actually kinda fun pets, if you have a place to keep them. Ours played tag, was hand fed, and liked to run around with us in the yard. They actually seem to like human interaction. Unfortunately, we let him get fat and lazy and a fox got him, because he was too fat to fly! Poor little Chalvey!

I don't think you can potty-train a duck... I think they just go when they go.
