I have recently gained so much weight and I can't seem to get it off. I watch what I eat and I exercise everyday. It makes me want to go of of the medication because now I am so depressed about my weight, I mainly take it for panic disorder not depression. Is there similar drug that can work as well that doesn't make you put on weight.

Zoloft is well known to cause weight gain. Along with Paxil, it is the most common anti-depressant to do such. This is probably because of its effect on the histamine system. Other antidepressants do not have as much histaminic effect. Therefore, you should discuss this problem with your doctor and he may recommend switching to another drug that is less likely to increase weight (ie prozac, effexor).

YES! I gained weight on every antidepressent. I think that it is because they speed up your metabolism which makes you more hungry and then you eat way more or something (I read that somewhere). Though, I never felt I was eating more. Either way, I decided to get off them altogether. Now I try acupuncture, massage therapy, and exercise to help me out (I am back to my normal weight after a year). If you have depression that is not horribly serious AND you have a plan to deal with it when it comes on then you may want to try other outlets, I personally hate antidepressents now because everytime I did go off of them, I had issues still that I never dealt with - they don't make certain issues go away, they just cover them up. Personally, I would rather deal with anxiety and depression head on and be happy with my weight, then cover it up and continue to gain weight!

All of those drugs cause weight gain. Panic is a symptom of a problem, not the problem itself.
If you're over 30 you probably have a hormone imbalance but since your doctor isn't familiar with that problem, he gave you drugs instead- cheap and cheerful- NEXT!
