The alcohol is released from the pores this is what causes the smell. As the body sweat the odor of the alcohol is being released. It take months maybe even years before the system is cleared of this poison. When we over consume alcohol it is released in this manner.

Probably because they have drank for so long it's still passing through their bloodstream.
Could be the alcohol in their cheap cologne that they use to mask the smell of alcohol in their pores/skin.
Are you sure you are smelling alcohol or just the smell of a drunk which drunks certainly have.
I am a recovering alcoholic myself with 10+yrs of sobriety and I know for sure that I only smelled like alcohol when I drank it and in the end I drank more than I didn't drink.
Is the alcoholic you are referring to suppose to be not drinking and they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes by telling you that they aren't drinking when in reality they really are?

Someone has said they sweat it out which is true. Most of the odor will come from respiration. A healthy liver can only process one drink an hour. Overdosing habitually reduces this ability and the alcoholic is processing his liquor for hours after cessation of drinking. Every time they exhale you can smell it "on their breath"

Not necessarily. If they drinking at the time they do, or, maybe the morning after, but, normally you not know an alcoholic unless they are drinking. Not all drink everyday either, but, when they do drink, they drink.
