"Yes, dogs and cats do have belly buttons. If you can convince a dog or cat to lie on their back for a bit, you'll find it in roughly the same area that humans have a belly button. The belly button, or umbilicus, represents the site where the umbilical cord attaches to the fetus during development. The umbilical cord transports blood between the fetus and the placenta. All eutherian or placental mammals have a placenta, and an umbilical cord. In the placenta the fetal circulation releases wastes in exchange for oxygen and nutrients from the mother. After the baby is born, the umbilical cord is usually tied off and cut. The stump attached to the baby falls off within a few days, leaving the belly button behind as the only reminder of life in utero."

"...it seems to me the easiest way to find out whether cats have belly buttons would have been to inspect a cat. If you had, you would have found that cats are indeed equipped with navels, notwithstanding the fact that they (along with dogs) are born in amnionic sacs. Admittedly, cat belly buttons don't look quite like the human version, being basically an elongated scar, often hidden by hair, located just astern of the rib cage. Virtually all mammals, including apes and lions, have umbilical cords and hence navels, the principal exceptions reportedly being our distinguished forebears Adam and Eve, for reasons that a moment's thought will make obvious."

Yes, cats have belly buttons. All mammals have belly buttons (technically it's called the umbilicus), any animal born live will have a belly button where the umbilical cord was attached. But things that were hatched from eggs, like birds, lizards, and fish, do not have belly buttons.

Most mammals have belly buttons or a small scar at the umbilicus. The possible exception would be marsupials, like opossums. They are born at a very early stage of maturity. Their placenta is only functional for 3 days.
I've never seen an umblical scar on any opossum or sugar glider that I've ever handled. It might be there but so tiny that it's undetectable.

Yes, any mammal that was attached to a placenta gets to have a bellybutton. Sometimes you can find it too, but you have to push a lot of fur out of the way and some cats don't like you messing with their navels (other cats don't mind). Usually momma cat did such a fine job of cutting the cord, it'll be so slight you can't hardly see or feel it.

I really don't know if cats have a belly button. That would be something to research or ask your vet.
Now I want to know too!

convinced, they do. See lower than in case you had appeared heavily sufficient you would have discovered that cats are certainly equipped with navels, besides the truth that the actual incontrovertible truth that they (alongside with dogs) are born in amnionic sacs. Admittedly, cat abdomen buttons do not seem truly like the human version, being truly an elongated scar, oftentimes hidden by using hair, positioned only astern of the rib cage. only about all mammals, jointly with apes and lions, have umbilical cords and for this reason navels. And BTW, the mum cat frequently chews the twine.

i was wrong on the eyelash question, said it is a mammal thing...i think cats have bellybuttons, though i haven't checked T'Pring to see for sure (and she's right here beside me)...i'm going to say it is a mammilian thing to have a navel, so yes they have a belly button.

I have a female and I've never checked her for a belly-button. I don't think they do, I can't see any, only her titties to feed her babies. Why don't you check the cat's tummy that's where it should be, let us know if you find it.

Cats, along with all other mammals, have bellybuttons, you can't see them because their cords aren't cut with scalpels. They just "fall off". It's strange I know, but once they are born, it just falls off and there isn't a scar, it heals and is soon covered up.
