Leave the child alone until Emergency Services arrives on the scene unless the car is on fire or there is some other life threatening situation. The seat is designed to protect the child in case of a crash. After a crash the seat and child need to be evaluated to determine if there may be unseen injuries to the child. If the child has a neck injury you may make it worse by removing the child from the seat.

First, the most important occupant is the child. The driver and other adults can wait. I have experienced a situation similar to the topic and have taken action. What you should do is look for the youngest passenger, such as an infant. If an infant is present in the seat, check to make sure she is okay and try to stop them from crying as calming them down. Check the posture of the child and any irregular movements as if she is struggling to move or has a certain discomfort or pain. Here is the important part..... I took classes and have informed drivers that help in an accident (even though I'm 18), to always make sure you have a safe situation. If the car is on a road where drivers are speeding, try to walk before with another person helping and flag the cars down. There is a difference between jumping on the road with the chance of getting hit and actually being careful while getting the actual attention. when the infant is in the car she may need to be put out depending on the situation...... DO NOT ATTEMPT UNAUTHORIZED MEDICAL PROCEEDURES!!!! As this may be dangerous and don’t follow what they do in movies at all. when doing so, with medical expertise or at least knowing carefully if you are a good parent, to take the kid carefully out and make sure that he/she is okay. If so, wait and calm down or scan any signs of s serious injury (perform any medical procedures as CPR or any other medical treatment procedures to help injuries). This a serious case as infants should be looked on and I have experienced accidents where people are careless and don't watch the child or infant resulting in serious injury and sadly death. Being a good Samaritan isn't a job you want or don’t like, it's your duty.......

Leave the child in the car seat. This is the best place for them.
Many times the ambulance crew will put on a cervical collar and leave the child in the car seat to transport. It is the safest place.
If the child does need to be removed from the car seat, let the EMTs and paramedics do it, they are trained to do this and prevent further injury.

Of course, it all depends..
But, assuming that the accident was fairly major but there's no danger of the car catching on fire, etc. I'd leave the child until EMS comes, just in case there's a hidden injury (just like you don't move an adult who is incapacitated in case of spinal injury).
If the accident was extremely minor, or if there is a danger of further injury by staying put, then and only then would I remove an occupant, either adult or child.

Your first concern should be for all the occupants and make sure your out of harms way. People have been know to hit vehicles in the road. The car could possible explode and I'm sure you don't want the memories of what you should have done on your conscience.
