He should be having evaluations done every six months by the prescribing doctor. They do a complete evaluation and change the dose accordingly. If your son hasn't had the checkup for the medication in a long time or you feel it isn't working, make an appointment with the doctor who writes the prescriptions.

i have a 9 yr old daughter who was diagnosed with ADHD 2 yrs ago, by a child psychologist, after lots of sessions and testing. We tried a few ritalin drugs, but in the end, we ended up going with Concerta, because it releases a few times during the day, she takes it in the morning, and it is a slow release pill that really helps her. She is no longer uncontrollable, or even violent with me anymore, she is a different child from before.
When I do find that she needs to be increased, when she seems to not be able to concentrate, or uncontrollable a little bit more, I make an appointment with our family doctor, and tell her what she has been like.

See a competent doctor. I took a large number of special education courses in the pursuit of a secondary education degree. I am certified in Math, General Science, and all Social Studies, both special ed and standard classrooms. The education stats show that most males were put on Ritalin and similar drugs not for problems but for being boys. The education system today wants "cookies" who all act just alike, think alike and never ask questions. Ritalin and its counterparts side effects are terrible, cumulative, and almost never explained to the parents. Please research it carefully before you even consider increasing the dosage!

You should talk to the doctor. Usually signs and symptoms return or they never decrease in the first place. But because this is a controlled drug you and the doctor need to decide what is best for your child because to much medication can have a really bad adverse affect on your child.

You should ask your doctor. But please make sure that your son really needs to be medicated. Most children who take ritalin do not need it. I would get a second opinion.

I always knew it was that time with my son when his symptoms got worse. He would get very hyper active, would have a harder time staying on task, etc. Like every body else said discuss it with his doctor.

Talk to your son's doctor about what are some signs that he may need his medicine adjusted. Also talk to his teacher and see if she has noticed any changes in his behavior. Report the changes in behavior they you and the teacher have noticed to the doctor...
