LOL Yes, it is buspar that is supposed to be anti-anxiety drug. I took it and didn't see much of a result. I think the only side effect is some drowsiness, but if that happens you can always cut down or quit the drug.

Good luck! I am suffering from social anxiety myself and it is horrible. I want to go out and instead stay home. This has been going on for a long time.

The past month I forced myself into a position where I had to socialize. I didn't think that was what I was doing until I had to meet a lot of new people. Then it hit me and all I could do was face the music and meet these new people and socialize with them.

I did and it helped to change me 100 % but when I got home I was just the same. Now, I think I might just pack up and move to a place where there are lots of people around all the time.

buspar.... for heaven's sake, are people really and truly submitting to medication regiments without even knowing the NAME? are the docs really being THAT irresponsible as to not educate their patients with background info about the meds they are prescribing? SCARY!! (I know, I know)

My first suggestion is to never agree to take a medication you have not learned about from the net, your pharmacist or the info in the box. It is irresponsible to submit your body to that. Your body has to last you the rest of your life.... psychotropic drugs can damage you beyond repair even if they are the right ones... I have friends who are permanently physically disabled by psych meds... one suffered two strokes on Zyprexa - she was just awarded over $100K in a class action suit; another friend started on Lithium with 100% kidney function and now she's down to 19%... at 15% she goes on dialysis... she's 34 and was planning on getting married and having children.... the meds her doc put her on to mask her depression killed any chance of that... she's hoping she lives to 35... these are just two people that I know...

these ladies will tell you that the symptoms that drove them to seek psychiatric help were WAY less damaging than the results they have to live with now

the best way to deal with anxiety is to deal with anxiety... there are ways to do that so that meds aren't the tool of choice... taking meds masks the symptoms and when the meds wear off, the symptoms are back... the best way is to deal with the symptoms by addressing your actions and reactions to life... you are the product of your life's experience and your life's experience has shaped the way you react to things... we are nothing but the sum of our memories... we can't change the past but we can learn to handle life differently now that we are adults... meds in the long run simply don't do the job... AND they can destroy you

bottom line - it's your life... you can make a tremendous difference in how you navigate through it... remember, you are the buyer and the doc is the seller... or the drug pusher ... become an educated consumer... learn about what the medication is/does before you even take the first one... and if you see that the long term or even short term side effects don't float your boat - ask for something different... be assertive with your doc... it's your life... you will have to deal with the effects of the meds, not him

yes, psychotropic meds scare the pants off of me and once I accepted that my mental wellness could be enhanced by learning about wellness self-management and coping skills, my life did a 180. I went to the same shrink for years and faithfully popped 'em but once he saw that I was moving forward and maintaining my health, he helped wean me off my meds and I've been med free for over 6 years... sure I still have issues, sure, I still need support and there are moments when I am lost in the dark but I am doing it! And that I AM doing affords me feelings of success and confidence that I CAN do it so I just keep doing it :) I am not alone... there is a whole recovery community out here that is walking that same path... look up Dr. Pat Deegan... read her story... Dan Fisher, Judi Chamberlin, Mary Ellen Copeland...

ok, I get off my soapbox now.... good luck in your journey :)
