The Bible is about the great love of God, that He gave his only son to dye in our place. If he had to dye, that means that justice is as important to God as love. But there is mercy in Jesus Christ!

In 2 Kings, maybe those "kids" were older than you think. And that guy was a prophet, who asked God for that judgment. The Bible doesn't say if he did right or wrong, he just used his authority. On the other hand, there was no Jesus yet, then just judgment, not grace. Thanks God we have now Jesus, and now we have grace. The Bible states:
(John 1:17): "For the law [Old Testament] was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ."

I think I would put the blame on "Baldy" first for that one.

Guru Nanak Dev, founder of the Sikh religion, returned back to his homeland of Punjab Province after decades of traveling and teaching. There had just been a violent clash between Hindus and Muslims with hundreds killed. Many of those women, children, and bystanders.

His first and most loyal disciple, Mardana, angrily looked to the Guru and asked why God would let the innocent die along with the guilty.

The Guru pointed to a tree nearby. He asked Mardana to go sit under it, he told him he would return later with the answer. Mardana waited a long time and nodded off. He was awaken by the intense pain of being bitten on the arm by a few of a particularly nasty species of ant native to that region.

He smacked the ants on his arm, then took off his sandal, found the ant hill and frantically proceeded to smash just all about all the ants until he ran out of breath.

After catching his breath he looked up, the Guru was there standing above him.

And said, "Now you know why the innocent die with the guilty."

If you were walking down the street and 42 youths, these are not little kids, these are young men came up and started jeering and taunting you, and you felt threatened what would you do. 42 young men that is not just a couple of kiddies calling you baldy. This is more like a mob, jeering and taunting. The life of Elisha, was not to be taken, he was a prophet of God, in a very evil country. The point being don't mess with God's prophets.

And the cool thing about it is that God is all knowing, so he would have known at the beginning of time that the kids were going to do it and had the power to stop it, but did nothing. Also, God is all present (everywhere) so God would have watched the whole bears mauling children and pain and suffering from start to finish and still have done nothing.
That is one sadistic entity, they hung Saddam for less than what God has done and sat there and watched throughout history.

Congratulations - you are learning to think for yourself and question the whole idea of a god who is all-knowing and all-powerful and still lets hideous things happpen. Keep questioning and thinking, and you will probably come to the conclusion that no such god can exist. Then you will have matured intellectually and spiritually and you'll know that you, not some old guy sitting on a cloud, are responsible for your actions and your morality. It is wonderful once you are rid of the "eye in the sky" and start living your life as a free and reasonable moral being.

grab a study bible. It will tell you about Elijah's struggle against royal apostasy. Baldness was uncommon among ancient Jews. By calling Elisha a "baldy" the kids from Bethel were expressing utter disdain for the Lord's representative..they thought he had zero power.

2 Kings 2: 22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.2 Kings 2: 23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. Elisha was God's prophet and God had gave him a job to do. God would let anybody mess with His prophet,

Because the bible isn't all about love, this is a statement made by christians to lure in more followers. The bible is about trying to prove Gods undeserved dominance. That's like asking "Why did God destroy Sodom and Gamorrah for expressing their free will to love other men?" Because God's immature and his attitude is "Do as I say or Ill kill and condemn you".
