When I was in nursing school I was told bi-racial children are hard to match for kidneys, and my sister & I have diffrent fathers, what kind of test do they give to see if we match, I live in a diffrent state, and her daughter lives with me for the past 5 years, what should I tell her.

she is a long time drug user, that's why I have her daughter. I have no health problems, and we have diffrent fathers, my mother passed.Is it true, bi-racial people are hard to match?

My father is Asian
her dad, is Native American ,& Black

its a blood test and even if your a perfect match there is a chance her body will reject it. you don't say in your question how old yous are or if there are any other health issues that would keep you from being a donor or that would keep her from getting on a transplant list. as for the child i don't know how old she is and how well adjusted she is from being separated from her mom, but she has to know her mom is sick or she wouldn't be living with you if shes old enough to understand what is going on explain to her in simple words how sick her mom is and be as gentle as possible if she is very young and wouldn't understand then i would wait to see how it goes with your sister and then tell her in words she would understand . this is a very hard situation and I'm very sorry for your family i pray all will work out. for yous

The degree of relatedness is probably more of a factor than race. If you are considering becoming a donor, you could get screened to see if you are a match. Here's a link to some info:
