Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor things present , nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

One of my favorite stories is that of the resurrection of Lazarus by Jesus. The Bible tells us at John 11:5 that Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. When Lazarus died the account tells us that Jesus joined Lazarus' relatives and friends as they grieved over his loss. It tells us that Jesus was deeply moved and He "groaned in the spirit and became troubled." At John 11:33,35 it tells us that Jesus gave way to tears, not because there was no hope, but because He saw the grief of the friends and family and he was a very compassionate man. He did this even though He knew that something wonderful was about to happen, still He felt the pain and sorrow that death brings. When Jesus asked for the stone covering the grave of Lazarus to be taken away, his sister Martha objected, since he had been dead for 4 days and his body must have begun to dacay. After convincing her that He had the power of the resurrection the stone was removed. Then Jesus cried out with a loud voice: "Lazarus, come on out!" Then the man that had been dead came out, to be joined with his family and friends once more. I love this account because it teaches about the hope of the resurrection that Jesus promised us. At John 5:28,29 Jesus said that "all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." So, even if we die we can be certain that His undeserved kindness will resurrect those who excercise faith in Him and observe the commandments of His Father who sent Him forth. Both the Father and the Son do not want anyone to be destroyed, but they take great delight in giving everlasting life to anyone who wants to drink from the waters of life and live for ever, as was originally intended....KECK

John 20:21 - before He grants them the authority to forgive sins, Jesus says to the apostles, "as the Father sent me, so I send you." As Christ was sent by the Father to forgive sins, so Christ sends the apostles and their successors forgive sins.

John 20:22 - the Lord "breathes" on the apostles, and then gives them the power to forgive and retain sins. The only other moment in Scripture where God breathes on man is in Gen. 2:7, when the Lord "breathes" divine life into man. When this happens, a significant transformation takes place.

John 20:23 - Jesus says, "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven. If you retain the sins of any, they are retained." In order for the apostles to exercise this gift of forgiving sins, the penitents must orally confess their sins to them because the apostles are not mind readers. The text makes this very clear.

Romans 12:1&2-... that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Ephesians 2 :8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Even tho I am no longer an xian, I can still appreciate the parable of the mustard seed, because it's about faith, and we all need that...in ourselves.
