Could this have any affect on my growth? I always sleep around 8-10 hours a night. I think I am around the average height (5"4) for my age (14) all though I don't know exactly. I'm fifteen in May. I do quite a lot of exercise each day, walking mainly for a couple of hours each day, and I do stretching before I go to bed too. I'm already taller than my mother! But want to be at least 5"7. I eat a very good balanced diet as well. But I'm really, really, really worried that this going to bed plate could have squandered my chance to grow even though I do sleep 8-10 hours a night! I am adamant that I am going to go to bed much earlier from now on, but have these late nights ruined my growth completely?? Please only reply if you Know, and thanks for any replies that I do get!

That's an interesting question. I have had the same problem for several years. I am an adult and 6'0" tall, so your issue does not involve me. I went to lots of doctors and read many articles on the subject. The doctors, probably, would not tell me anything about the late sleeping causing problems with my growth, but the articles would. There was no warning at all that going to bed late would cause problems with growth. Plenty of other problems come up if you have to get up early. Also, even if you get 8 hrs sleep you might be missing something that is important - more daylight hours to use for good activities like sports/exercise, meeting with other kids, school, and all kinds of things going on aroud you when you are sleeping.

Good luck and go to bed!

No son, I'm 6'2 and I have been going to bed late for year, as long as you get the required sleep time of 8-9 hrs a day. You'll be OK, as long as it isn't forced on by medication. So to your answer, no it hasn't ruined your growth.
